From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised. As we read in Psalm 113:3, "From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD's name is to be praised."
How often do we neglect to praise God for the simple yet magnificent acts of His creation that we experience each day? The sunrise and sunset mark the passage of time set forth by our Creator, and reveal breathtaking beauty painted across the sky by His artistic hand. Yet in our busyness we fail to stop and acknowledge the Author of these daily miracles.
As Charles Spurgeon aptly stated, "One of the sins of this age is hurry...We are all apt to break the law of nature which ordains that a man shall take time to eat his meals. We bolt our food whole, and our digestive organs break down under the pressure put upon them. Let us eat less and chew more. So is it with our minds, they cannot feed upon Holy Scripture if we tear through it as we do through some yellow-backed novel."
Just as we ought to slow down and properly digest our physical food, we must also intentionally pause to meditate on God's Word and His wonders revealed to us each day. The cycle of sunrise and sunset marks the passing of time ordained by God - let us praise Him for His faithfulness and lovingkindness which are new every morning. Great is Thy faithfulness, O Lord! As we begin each day, may we open our eyes to see and give thanks for Your handiwork. May we take time to ponder Your majesty and soak in the beauty of creation. Forgive us for the many rushed mornings and evenings, and train our hearts to praise You from the rising to the setting of the sun.
