Philippians 1:21 holds a vital truth: "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." This powerful verse reminds us that a life lived for Christ has great meaning and purpose. When we make the Lord the very center of our existence, orienting our priorities, goals, thoughts, and actions around Him, He provides us with incomparable hope, strength, and satisfaction. There is no greater aim than glorifying God with the gifts He has entrusted to us during our time on this earth.
Yet if we're honest, it's easy to lose sight of Christ even when life seems to be going smoothly. We get caught up in our jobs, families, hobbies - the constant activity makes it challenging to keep our focus fixed on God. It's often when those distractions and activities fade, or hardship unexpectedly enters, that we realize how desperately we need the Lord. We discover the flimsiness of the foundations we had been building upon. We recognize the inability of the world to truly satisfy our deepest needs.
As the saying goes, you don't fully grasp that Christ is all you need until He is all you have. Those difficult seasons of loss or crisis have a way of refocusing us on the Lord, burning away lesser things and leaving us longing for the enduring nourishment of His Word, His presence, His promises.
When everything else crumbles and fails, Jesus Christ remains constant. He is the same yesterday, today and forever - a anchor for our souls no matter what storms may come
