He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he t followeth vain persons is void of understanding-Proverbs 12:11

Though it may have originated in Russia, the origins of the childrens story The Little Red Hen are uncertain. This little parable describe hen who found some wheat seeds and invited the other barnyard anim to help her grow and harvest the wheat. Despite her repeated asking assistance, none of them are interested in planting, weeding, watering harvesting, milling, or baking. Yet when the delicious bread is finish they are more than happy to help eat it. Instead the Little Red Hen said "I'll eat it myself." She had done all of the work, and she deserved the satisfaction of reaping the fruit of her efforts.

Our society does not value work as it once did. There are man government programs providing funding for those who are unwilling t labor. (This is different than providing help for those who cannot hel themselves.) These programs produce a negative incentive. When there is no connection between work and reward, it is not hard to understand why people regard work as something to be avoided if at all possible Those who are able to work but refuse to do so cheat themselves of the satisfaction and accomplishment that comes from diligent labor.

Instead of drifting along with the culture, God's people should b shining examples of diligent workers. Whether or not the task is enjoyable or pays as much as we think it should, work is part of God's plan for our lives. We must remember that ultimately our labor is for the Lord, no our human boss, Colossians 3:23-24 admonishes, "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ

Today's Word to the Wise: Do all of your work diligently, realizing that you rob yourself as well as others when you do less than your best.
