Faithful in a Fallen World Rev 2:12-17 #Nightlight #RTTBROS #RevelationRevealed RR8

Revelation 2:12-17 KJVS - 12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;
13 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. 15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

The church in Pergamos was in a tough spot. They lived right in the middle of a bustling, pagan city filled with immorality and idol worship. It would have been so easy for them to get sucked into the ways of the world around them.

But Jesus commends them, saying "I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith" (v. 13). Even in the midst of temptation and trials, they held onto Jesus. What strength! What commitment!

Yet, Jesus also offers a sobering warning: "Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth" (v.16). Some in the church were holding onto the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which Jesus hated. They were compromising, letting the culture around them shape their beliefs.

This is a danger for us today, friends. It's easy to let the world slowly conform us to its patterns, rather than be transformed into the image of Christ. We must examine our hearts daily, rooting out any false teachings or practices that have crept in.

Jesus longs for His Bride to be pure and holy, "not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing" (Eph. 5:27). Let us repent of any areas that are not fully aligned to Him. Jesus is coming soon - will He find us faithful?

Marvelous Lord, give us Pergamos' strength to endure, but also their vigilance against compromise. Search our hearts and keep us wholly Yours. In Jesus' name, amen.
