Love His Appearing By Dr. Paul Chappell

Love His Appearing"

by Dr. Paul Chappell

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

2 Timothy 4:6-8

The busyness of life can easily consume all of our time and attention. Even if we are doing good things, we can miss the most important things if we are not careful. And the most important next event on God's calendar is the return of the Lord. We should live each day with the knowledge that He could come, and with the hope that He will. This is what loving His appearing looks like in action. Alexander MacLaren said, “The apostolic church thought more about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ than about death and heaven. The early Christians were looking, not for a cleft in the ground called a grave but for a cleavage in the sky called Glory.”

None of us knows how long we will live or whether the Lord will return during our lives, but each of us should long for the day when we see Him. We must not allow ourselves to be so caught up in the things of the world that we lose our overwhelming love for God. Anyone who has been separated from their loved ones for a long period of time, whether because or war or work or sickness or something else, knows how eagerly the reunion is anticipated. We count down the days and even the hours until we see those we love on earth. But how often do we view the Lord's return with the same anticipation and joy? The passage of time since the promise of His return was given has not changed the certainty of it. He is coming again.

Today's Growth Principle:
We should live each day in a manner which reflects our longing to see Jesus face to face.

Being Like Jesus

by Dr. Paul Chappell

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

1 John 3:2

Thomas Chisholm was twenty-seven years old when he trusted Christ as his Savior in a revival near his home in Kentucky. Chisholm would go on to write a large number of hymns, but one of his earliest, which is still sung today, was written not long after he was saved. It is titled “O To Be Like Thee.”

O to be like Thee! Blessed Redeemer;
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,
Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.

O to be like Thee! O to be like Thee!
Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.

We know that God's ultimate purpose for us is to be like His Son, and one day in His presence that goal will be accomplished. “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:29). But we must not be content to know that we will eventually be made in His image. It should be our purpose and goal every day to be more and more like Jesus.

We cannot make any progress toward this task in our own strength, but we do not have to. God has given every one of His children the Holy Spirit, who lives within us. As we yield to Him, He will guide us to conform to Jesus' likeness. We cannot spend time with Him without it being apparent to those around us. “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13).

Today's Growth Principle:
Everyone who knows us should be aware from our lives that we are spending time with Jesus.

Triumph 2 Cor 2:14 by A.B Simpson

Triumph

Every victor must first be a self-conqueror. But the method of Joshua's victory was the uplifted arm of Moses on the mount. As Moses held up his hands, Joshua prevailed; as he lowered them, Amalek prevailed. It was to be a battle of faith and not of human strength. The banner that was to wave over the discomfited foe was Jehovah-nissi. This, too, is the secret of our spiritual triumph. If we are led of the Spirit we shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). Sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace (Romans 6:14). Have we begun the battle and in the strength of Christ planted our feet on our own necks? And thus victorious over the enemy in the citadel of the heart, have we been set at liberty for the battle of the Lord and the service of others? It was this lack that hindered the life of Saul, and it has wrecked many a promising career. One enemy in the heart is stronger than ten thousand in the field. May the Lord lead us all into Joshua's first triumph and show us the secret of self crucifixion through the greater Joshua, who alone can lead us on to holiness and victory! [Who] always causeth us to triumph -2 Corinthians 2:14

I will put MY LAW into their HEART by J.H Jowett

THE LAW IN THE HEART
“I will put My laws into their hearts.”
—Hebrews 10:16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22.

EVERYTHING depends on where we carry the law of the Lord. If it only rests in the memory, any vagrant care may snatch it away. The business of the day may wipe it out as a sponge erases a record from a slate. A thought is never secure until it has passed from the mind into the heart, and has become a desire, an aspiration, a passion. When the law of God is taken into the heart, it is no longer something merely remembered: it is something loved. Now things that are loved have a strong defence. They are in the “keep” of the castle, in the innermost custody of the stronghold. The strength of the heart is wrapped about them, and no passing vagrant can carry them away.

And this is where the good Lord is willing to put His laws. He is wishful to put them among our loves. And the wonderful thing is this: when laws are put among loves they change their form, and His statutes become our songs. Laws that are loved are no longer dreadful policemen, but compassionate friends. “O! how I love Thy law!” That man did not live in a prison, he lived in a garden, and God’s will was unto him as gracious flowers and fruits. And so shall it be unto all of us when we love the law of the Lord.

Answered Prayer Jn. 15:7 F.B. Meyer

ANSWERED PRAYER

"If ye abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you."-- John 15:7.

OUR LORD expected answers to His prayers, and in all His teaching He leads us to feel that we shall be able to obtain, through prayer, what otherwise would not come to our hand. He knew all that was to be known of natural law; but notwithstanding His perfect acquaintance with the mysteries of His Father's government, He said: "If ye shall ask anything of the Father, He will give it you in My Name."

When we consider the lives of some who have wrought mightily for God, it is clear that they learned a secret which eludes many of us. This is from the biography of Dr. Burns Thomson: "When much together as students," writes his friend, "we agreed on special petitions, and the Lord encouraged us by giving us answers, so early and so definite, as could only have come from Himself, so that no room was left for the shadow of doubt that God was the Hearer and Answerer of prayer. Once the answer came the same day, and at another time whilst we were yet speaking. My friend often spoke of our agreement, to the glory of Him who fulfilled to us His promise; and I refer to it to encourage others." This is but one leaf out of the great library of prayers, intercessions, and supplications, which stand recorded before God.

Prayer which is to prevail must be: For the glory of the Father. Whatever petition we offer must be tested by this thought: will it be for the glory of God? It is for this that our Saviour lives and pleads (John 14:13).

It must be in Christ's Name, which stands for Nature. In other words, when we pray it must not be as our self-nature but as the Christ-nature indicates. It is not enough to mention His Name at the end of our prayer: His Spirit must pervade every petition.

We must bear fruit (John 15:16). Answers to prayer largely depend on our ministry to others. If we are living for the accomplishment of God's purpose and the coming of His Kingdom, we may ask whatever is necessary for the achievement of our endeavour.

We must abide in Christ; then the sap of the Holy Spirit rising from the hidden root will produce desires and petitions like those which Christ ever presents to His Father (John 15:7).

PRAYER

All our desire is known unto Thee, therefore perfect what Thou hast begun, and what Thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer. We seek Thy face, show us Thy glory. AMEN.

Precious Promice By Dr. Paul Chappell

The Most Precious Promise

by Dr. Paul Chappell

And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

1 John 2:25

Pretty much all of us are familiar with empty promises. We've seen advertisements for products that will supposedly fix all kinds of problems. We've gotten emails from foreign royalty promising us a fortune in return for a small advance payment. And most of us have experienced the heartbreak of having someone let us down when they had promised to help. The strength of a promise is not in what it offers, but in who makes it. The most glowing promises in the world are empty and meaningless unless they are backed up by someone is willing and able to fulfill them.

The most precious promise that has ever been made to any of us is the promise of salvation through Christ. It is precious not just because it offers us eternal life in place of the eternal torment we deserve, or because of the wonders of Heaven that are waiting for us in the future, or because it does not require any good works or obligation on our part. It is most precious because it is certain and sure. God has never failed to keep a single promise that He has made. Solomon said, “Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant” (1 Kings 8:56).

Being the beneficiaries and recipients of such a certain promise lays on us a responsibility. Salvation costs us nothing, but it does bring a desire to live for Him who gave so much for us. Paul wrote, “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (2 Corinthians 7:1). The certainty of the promise means that one day we will stand before the Lord and give an account of our lives. What a joy it will be if we can stand before Christ having invested our lives on Earth for Him

Today's Growth Principle:
Rejoice today in the certainty of God's promise of eternal life, and live today in such a way that you can look forward to His return

My Fathers Day Prayer by Gene Kissinger

My Fathers day Prayer.

Dear father above thank you for being a perfect example of what fatherhood looks like. Thank you also for the fathers that you have gifted to us. They get up early and work long hours and come home and still find ways to bring joy into our lives. They give us correction and Direction when we've needed it. They somehow knew when we needed to be encouraged and lifted us up as they would speak a word in due season. They are Fierce Defenders of their homes and this great nation in which we live and we are so thankful for them.  We know that we live under the security blanket that they helped provide. Lord please be with those that had damaged father's on this day we know that not All Fathers  embody the traits that you taught us. So we ask that you would give these children that came from damaged homes a peace the passes understanding and let them know that you can step in and fill that role of a father or a mother.  Thank you God for that. We just ask that this would be a day of reconnecting and refocusing our hearts towards home and that those homes would focus on you, we ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Amen
