THE SONG BEFORE THE STRUGGLE
I was thinking today about how we usually write the song after the victory. We wait until the battle is won, the dust settles, and the trophy is in our hands before we start singing about how great the win was. It feels natural to praise God for what He has already done.
But there is something different about the song of Moses and the children of Israel. They sang while they were still standing on the edge of a wilderness. They had just seen the Red Sea part, but they looked out and faced a future that included a desert and a destination that would require facing fortified cities, standing against giants, and enduring a long, hard journey to get there.
They didn't wait for the Promised Land to start the music. They sang because they knew who was walking with them.
"The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him." — Exodus 15:2
God doesn't just give us strength for the moment we are in; He gives us a song to carry us through the moments that haven't happened yet. He empowers us for the giants and the deserts before we even see them on the horizon.
Tonight, you might be staring at a wilderness of your own. Don't wait for the victory to find your voice. Let His strength be your song right now, in the middle of the unknown.
Sing it anyway. He's already ahead of you.
