PLAYING HURT#RTTBROS #NIGHTLIGHT

PLAYING HURT
#RTTBROS #NIGHTLIGHT
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us. 2 Corinthians 4:7

If you watch enough football, you will see it. The star receiver takes a hard hit in the second quarter. He is limping, he is taped up, and he is clearly not 100 percent. But he does not go to the locker room. He stays on the sideline, breathes through the pain, and goes back in for the fourth quarter.

In the sports world, we call it playing hurt. It is not ideal, and it is certainly not the way you want to play, but the game does not stop just because you are injured. The clock keeps running, and the team still needs you on the field.

I have realized that the Christian walk is a lot like that.

We live in a sin cursed world, and if we wait until we are completely healed, until every trauma is erased and every wound is closed, before we engage in the mission of God, we will spend our entire lives on the sidelines. We do not have that luxury. There are people around us whose eternity is in the balance, and they do not need a perfect person; they need a present one.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us. 2 Corinthians 4:7

The jar of clay is the part of us that is cracked. The playing hurt part. The beauty of the Gospel is that God does not wait for the jar to be repaired before He puts the treasure inside. He uses the cracks to let the light leak out.

Tonight, if you are limping, if you have been hurt by the very people you should have been safe with, know that you can still be useful. You do not have to be whole to be helpful.

Tonight, as you reflect, consider these three things:

1. Acknowledge the limp. Do not pretend you are not hurting. God cannot heal what you will not admit is broken, and you cannot lead others through a valley you are pretending is not there.

2. Stay in the game. Do not let your injury become your identity. You are a child of God who happens to be hurting, not a hurt person who happens to be a child of God.

3. Lean on the Trainer. You can play hurt, but you cannot play alone. Bring your wounds to the Great Physician every single night. Let Him tape you up for tomorrow.

You do not have to be perfect to be purposeful.

Stay on the field.
