Laying Down Our Burdens
"As a camel kneels before his master to have him remove his burden at the end of the day, so kneel each night and let the Master take your burden." This quote by Corrie ten Boom beautifully captures how we can lay our burdens at the feet of Jesus each night. Just as a camel is relieved when its heavy load is removed, we too can feel the weight lifted when we give our cares and worries to God.
"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." (Psalm 55:22 KJV) This verse reminds us that we don't have to carry our burdens alone. God wants us to cast them on Him because He cares for us. He will sustain and uphold us when we feel weary and overwhelmed.
Too often we try to fix everything ourselves and end up anxious and sleepless as our minds race. But God never intended for us to carry it all ourselves. He wants us to learn to kneel in prayer and surrender it to Him, trusting that He is in control. As we kneel humbly before God and lay down the things that are weighing us down, we can experience His peace that passes understanding.
What burdens do you need to lay down tonight? Is there a relationship that is causing you turmoil? Do you need to release your frustration over a situation at work? Are you feeling anxious about the future? Take it all to the Lord in prayer. Pour out your heart to Him and then leave those burdens at the cross. You may need to consciously surrender them day after day, but keep taking them back to God until you experience release.
Just as a camel's master lovingly removes the heavy loads, your Heavenly Father wants to unload the burdens of your heart. He longs to give you rest. As you kneel in His presence, feel His peace begin to surround you. Let Him lift those weights and give you freedom. You don't have to carry them anymore.
