Protective Perimeter
"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" (Psalm 133:1, KJV)
In the wild, animals like wildebeest and gazelle have a remarkable strategy for protecting themselves from predators. When threatened by lions, the herd will form a tight circle, with the young and vulnerable in the center. The strong adults face outward, ready to kick and fend off any attacking lions. It is the straggler who gets separated from the herd that is most likely to get picked off by the predators.
This is a beautiful picture of how we as the church should surround and support one another. When we stand together in unity, we create a wall of protection, especially for those among us who are going through trials and hardships. We are called to "bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." (Gal 6:2, KJV)
It brings great joy to the Lord when His people live in harmony and look out for each other. As it says in Psalm 133, it is "good and pleasant" when brothers and sisters in Christ dwell together as one. We draw strength from one another.
So let us make every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit. Stay connected to your church family. Surround the hurting with love and support. Recognize that there is power in standing and serving together. As we do, we will experience the goodness of the Lord as He blesses our fellowship and makes us a strong testimony of His love to the watching world.
