Katharine Hepburn’s childhood, in her own words.
“Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus.
Finally, there was only one other family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me.
There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. The way they were dressed, you could tell they didn't have a lot of money, but their clothes were neat and clean.
The children were  well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their  parents, holding hands. They were excitedly jabbering about the clowns,  animals, and all the acts they would be seeing that night. By their  excitement you could sense they had never been to the circus before. It  would be a highlight of their lives.
The father and mother were at the head of the pack standing proud as could be. The mother was holding her husband's hand, looking up at him as if to say,  "You're my knight in shining armour." He was smiling and enjoying seeing  his family happy.
The ticket lady asked the man how many tickets he wanted? He proudly responded, "I'd like to buy  eight children's tickets and two adult tickets, so I can take my family  to the circus." The ticket lady stated the price.
The man's wife let go of his hand, her head dropped, the man's lip began to quiver. Then he leaned a little closer and asked, "How much did you  say?" The ticket lady again stated the price.
The man didn't have enough money. How was he supposed to turn and tell his  eight kids that he didn't have enough money to take them to the circus?
Seeing what was going on, my dad reached into his pocket, pulled out a $20  bill, and then dropped it on the ground. (We were not wealthy in any  sense of the word!) My father bent down, picked up the $20 bill, tapped  the man on the shoulder and said, "Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket."
The man understood what was going on. He wasn't begging for a handout but certainly appreciated the help in a desperate, heartbreaking and embarrassing situation.
He looked straight into my dad's eyes, took my dad's hand in both of his,  squeezed tightly onto the $20 bill, and with his lip quivering and a  tear streaming down his cheek, he replied; "Thank you, thank you, sir.  This really means a lot to me and my family."
My father and I went back to our car and drove home. The $20 that my dad  gave away is what we were going to buy our own tickets with.
Although we didn't get to see the circus that night, we both felt a joy inside  us that was far greater than seeing the circus could ever provide.
That day I learnt the value to Give.
The Giver is bigger than the Receiver. If you want to be large, larger than life, learn to Give. Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get - only with what you are expecting to give - which is everything.
The importance of giving, blessing others can never be over emphasised because there's always joy in giving.  Learn to make someone happy by  acts of giving.”

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not

The book of Jeremiah contains many encouragements from God to His people. In chapter 33 verse 3, God invites His followers to "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." This has been nicknamed "God's phone number" because it is an open invitation to connect with Him, ask questions, and receive wisdom.

When we are going through difficult times, God wants us to turn to Him. He cares about our problems and wants to guide us. Calling out to God in prayer is like dialing a direct line to speak with Him personally. He promises that when we do this in faith, He will answer and reveal things to us that we could not know on our own.

Prayer is powerful because it taps us into the knowledge and perspective of an all-knowing, all-loving God. He sees the full picture when our vision is limited. He knows what lies ahead when the future is uncertain to us. God's vantage point is far greater, like the difference between seeing from the valley floor compared to seeing from the summit of a mountain.

God also wants to reveal more of Himself to us when we seek Him in prayer. As we build a relationship with Him, He shows us more of who He is. The deeper our connection with God, the greater our awareness of His presence and work in our lives. Talking and listening to God is the pathway to knowing Him in a personal, intimate way.

The next time you are facing uncertainty or need wisdom, remember God's open invitation in Jeremiah 33:3. Call out to Him in prayer with your questions and concerns. Wait patiently for His answers as you reflect on His Word. Expect Him to reveal His loving guidance to you in His perfect timing.

Jeremiah 33:3 gives us unlimited, direct access to speak with the all-knowing Creator of the universe. What an incredible privilege prayer is! God is eagerly waiting for us to call on Him so He can reveal His truth and love to transform our lives in amazing ways.

"There is no respect of persons with God." (Romans 2:11 KJV)

It's easy to want God to treat us like a favorite child - to bend reality for our comfort and convenience. But Scripture tells us clearly that God does not play favorites. He cares more about our character than our comfort.

God wants what is best for each of us, and often that involves challenges that shape our faith and reliance on Him. The easy road rarely leads to growth. When we go through trials, we can be assured that God has allowed these not because He loves us any less, but precisely because He loves us so much.

Our calling is not to demand God's favor, but to live for His glory. Surrendering our will to His perfect plan requires trust that He sees a bigger picture. God may not change the circumstances, but He can change us through the circumstances. The more we yield to Him, the more He will shape us into Christ's image - His true heart's desire for each of His children.

On this day, may we rest in the Father's unbiased, unwavering love, trusting that He knows exactly what we need to become all He has planned for us to be. Our circumstances are not a reflection of His love, but His love can shine through any circumstance if we let Him work in us.

"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen." - 2 Peter 3:18 (KJV)

Regardless of the chaos happening around us, our first responsibility as Christians is growing in our relationship with Christ. When Peter wrote this verse, he was referring to end times and trials. Yet his solution was not to focus on external circumstances but to grow internally in grace and knowledge of Jesus.

Grace comes through humility and surrender to God. When we admit our weaknesses and rely fully on Him, He gives us the grace to follow Him. Knowledge is gained by studying Christ and developing maturity in our faith. But both require an intentional investment of time seeking the Lord rather than being distracted by problems around us.

Even for non-believers, personal growth is often the answer to life's issues. Secular counseling encourages self-improvement strategies. But as Christians, we have access to a supernatural Helper who transforms us from within. He can bring peace and stability no matter what storms rage without.

The key is cultivating intimacy with God. By praying, studying the Word, fellowshipping with other believers, and practicing spiritual disciplines, we deepen our relationship with Him. Our trials become opportunities to know Christ better, developing godly character, wisdom, and endurance.

As the world grows more troubled, we must firmly anchor ourselves in Jesus. He reminds us that trials are temporary but staying close to Him brings eternal rewards. When we seek God first, external pressures and demands become secondary. Our focus shifts from anxiety over circumstances to awe of the One who holds the universe in His hands.

Let's follow Peter's advice. No matter how chaotic the world becomes, keep pursuing personal growth in the grace and knowledge of Jesus above all else. He will fill us with His peace and use our lives to glorify Him.

Overcoming Temptation's Sneak Attack

"Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices." - 2 Corinthians 2:11 (KJV)

Ol' slewfoot sure has some sneaky strategies when it comes to temptation, doesn't he? That devil loves to mess with our thought lives first, getting our minds all wrapped up and tangled before he springs the physical trap. As Martin Luther used to say, "you can't keep the birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair." Temptation often starts as a little thought that don't seem so bad. But left unchecked, those thoughts become a stronghold, softening us up for the real attack.

Take lust, for example. The temptation begins as a wandering eye and sinful imagination. But soon those impure thoughts pave the way for far worse transgressions. As Adrian Rogers would say, "what you watch is what you become." The thought life is ground zero in the battle against temptation. If we allow the serpent's seeds to take root in our minds, the fruit will be rotten, for sure.

But don't get discouraged, child of God.  The old preachers used to say "sin will keep you from the Bible, or the Bible will keep you from sin." Fill your mind with the Word and wisdom of the Lord, and it'll crowd out the enemy's schemes. Stay vigilant against those sneaky thought-traps and you'll avoid the snares that follow. We may not be ignorant of Satan's devices, but we sure can be informed and prepared through Scripture. Don't let down your guard, folks. Temptation is always lurking, ready for a sneak attack. But with the Holy Spirit's help, we can spot those fiery darts coming from a mile away and stomp them out for good! Amen? Amen!

The Bible offers a call to complete commitment. Choose: Life or Death, Blessing or Cursing, Light or Dark, and Good or Evil.  Pick a side, no riding the fence.  Luke warm will be spewed out of God's mouth is how Revelation talks about this supposed neutral stance.  Are you willing to pay the price to choose your side. We have to be Salt and light fighting the darkness and decay in the world system around us. Here are some areas where you must take a side.

Abortion, Woke culture, sexual sin being promoted in every arena.  

The lines have been drawn, it is a bright line calling us all to make a choice.  Choose God.

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. 2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:1-5

Whenever something hurts you you have a choice you can either become wounded or you can become wise.  Think of Joseph here in the Old Testament he was the favored son of his father but hated of his brothers because of that. As a result of this negative Dynamic Joseph ended up being severely mistreated by his brothers he was beaten put into a pit sold into slavery and even within Egypt he suffered at the whims of others. He had a choice he could either become wounded or wise he chose wisdom and in so doing he saved the nation that he was living in from a famine. So the wicked thing that was done to him was transformed into a life-saving Act of God.
In life there's no shortage of painful situations. Our choices are the same as Joseph's choices we can either choose to be wounded or to be wise we can allow the pain to make us bitter or make us better we can either be a victim or a victor depending on how we choose to view the pain inducing incident in our lives.
I think maybe the practical application to this concept is when we find ourselves confronted with pain is to ask different questions. For example we tend to ask why me,  which is normal to feel when pain strikes.  Instead we need to find out what is God doing in this situation.  So a better question might be God what should I do next, how can you get great Glory out of this situation?
