There is a species of plant called the Chinese Bamboo. When the seed is first planted, the farmer waters it and fertilizes it every single day. For the first year, nothing happens. Not a single sprout breaks the surface. The second year, the farmer continues the routine, watering, weeding, and waiting, and still, there is absolutely nothing to show for the effort.
The third year passes. Then the fourth. For four straight years, the ground remains bare. To an outsider, it looks like a waste of time. It looks like the farmer is tending to a patch of dead dirt.
But then, in the fifth year, something miraculous happens. In a window of just six weeks, the bamboo shoots up to eighty feet tall.
The question is: did the bamboo grow eighty feet in six weeks, or did it grow eighty feet in five years? The answer, of course, is five years. If the farmer had stopped watering for even one day during those silent years, the plant would have died in the ground. The growth was happening the whole time. It was just happening underground, building a root system strong enough to support the explosion that was coming.
The garden doesn't work on a microwave schedule. It works on a harvest schedule.

Here is the truth about the spiritual life: there is often a massive gap between the sowing and the reaping.
You pray for your child for ten years and see no change. You show up for your spouse with kindness and patience, but the atmosphere in the house stays cold. You do the right thing at work, and the person who cuts corners gets the promotion.
You start to feel like the seed was a waste. You're tempted to stop sowing because you can't see the sprout. But the seed isn't dead; it's developing. The most important work happens in the dark, underground, where no one, including you, can see it.
Tonight, if you're weary of doing the right thing without seeing the result: don't dig up the seed. Keep watering. Keep trusting.
The harvest is coming. It's just not on your clock.
Sleep in the confidence that God doesn't waste a single seed.
