Not Offended

In life, we often face situations that have the potential to offend us. However, being offended is a choice we make based on the stories we tell ourselves about the events that happen to us. The Bible provides us with examples of individuals who chose not to be offended, even in the face of adversity.

Consider the life of Joseph in the Old Testament. Despite being sold into slavery by his own brothers and facing numerous challenges, Joseph chose not to be offended. When he was reunited with his brothers years later, he told them, "But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive." (Genesis 50:20, KJV)

In contrast, Job, another Old Testament saint, lamented, "Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble." (Job 14:1, KJV) While Job faced immense suffering, he ultimately recognized God's sovereignty and chose not to be offended by his circumstances.

 The Staff in Our Hands

Exodus 4:2 (KJV) - "And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod."

 lets reflect upon the simplicity of Moses' staff. It was an ordinary shepherd's tool, yet chosen by God to perform extraordinary feats. This staff, when cast down before Pharaoh, became a serpent; when lifted, it parted the Red Sea. It was a symbol of God's power working through what Moses already had in his hand.

As we meditate on this passage, let us consider our own 'staffs'—the talents, resources, and opportunities God has placed within our grasp. Often, we overlook the potential of what we already possess, seeking grand solutions while ignoring the humble instruments God has provided.

Psalms 90:17 (KJV) "And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it."

  Pray that the Lord blesses and establishes the work of your hands. May He guide you to use your abilities and resources for His glory and the betterment of those around you.

Change, though often traumatic, is a necessary part of life. Just as the bullfrog and butterfly must endure the trauma of transformation to reach their most mature form, we too must face the challenges of change to grow and develop. In life, there are two directions of change: generative change, which is positive, and degenerative change, which is negative. We never remain in stasis; we either grow or atrophy, and the same is true for our spiritual lives.

The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Romans, urges us to embrace the transformative power of God's love. He calls us to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, wholly devoted to God, and to resist conforming to the patterns of this world. Instead, we are to allow God to renew our minds, enabling us to discern His perfect will for our lives.

However, by surrendering to God's transformative power, we open ourselves up to the possibility of profound healing and growth. As we allow God to reshape our minds and hearts, we begin to see the world through His eyes and to live in accordance with His will.

The natural world offers beautiful examples of unexpected companionship. Off the coast of Argentina, a pod of dolphins formed an unlikely bond with a lone beluga whale. Separated from its pod, the beluga appeared lost and disoriented. The dolphins, in a remarkable act of compassion, took the beluga under their wing, swimming alongside it and guiding it on its migration journey. This heartwarming display of interspecies cooperation reminds us of the importance of community.

Devotional Application: The Christian life is not meant to be a solitary journey. We are called to love, support, and care for one another. The Nudge : Faithfulness in the Ordinary (Proverbs 3:27)

Have you ever had a nagging feeling that something wasn't quite right? Sometimes, those feelings can be nudges from God, prompting us to pay attention. This is the story of Bailey, a dog in Oregon who became a hero. Bailey's owner repeatedly noticed him barking intently at the basement door. Initially dismissed as a case of doggy curiosity, the barking persisted. Finally, the owner decided to investigate, only to discover a dangerous gas leak. Bailey's faithfulness in alerting his family potentially saved their lives.

 In our daily lives, we might encounter opportunities to do good, to offer help, or simply to pay attention to a nagging unease. Just like Bailey, faithfulness doesn't require grand gestures. It's about being present, alert, and willing to act on those little nudges. Perhaps it's a neighbor struggling with groceries, a coworker feeling overwhelmed, or a simple act of kindness towards a stranger. Remember, God can use us in unexpected ways to bring good to those around us. Don't withhold the good that is within your power to do.

Galloping in God's Grace

Verse: "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." - 2 Corinthians 3:17 (KJV)

SEATTLE (AP) — A zebra that escaped from a trailer east of Seattle last weekend remained on the lam Friday, as authorities closed off trailheads at a nature area in hopes of keeping people away and easing her capture.

The zebra was one of four that escaped as they were being transported from Washington to Montana last Sunday. The driver had taken the Interstate 90 exit for North Bend, in the Cascade mountain foothills about 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of Seattle, to secure the trailer, when the zebras got loose, surprising residents and drivers as they galloped into a rural neighborhood.

Three were quickly captured after being corralled in a pasture. But the fourth — a mare called “Z” — hopped a fence and has proved more elusive, spawning popular social media memes that have placed the animal everywhere from riding a ferry across Puget Sound to rounding the bases at T-Mobile Park, home of the Seattle Mariners.

The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 3:17 (KJV), "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." Just as those zebras broke free from their confines, we too can experience the liberation that comes from the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we are no longer bound by the shackles of sin and guilt. The Spirit of the Lord dwells within us, granting us the freedom to live abundantly in His grace. We are set free to run the race set before us, not weighed down by the burdens of our past or the worries of our future.

As the zebras galloped with joy, their stripes a beautiful testament to their uniqueness, we too can celebrate the individuality God has given each of us. In Christ, we are free to be who He created us to be, unhindered by the expectations or limitations of this world.

So let us embrace the liberty we have in the Lord, allowing His Spirit to guide us as we gallop through life with purpose and passion. May we, like those zebras, bring unexpected joy and wonder to those around us as we live out our freedom in Christ.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the freedom we have in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to fully embrace the liberty that comes from Your Spirit dwelling within us.
