Shining the Light in the Darkness

You are the lighthouse in someone else's storm.

We must never lose sight of our primary purpose - to reach the lost with the life-saving message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In a culture that is increasingly hostile to biblical truth, may we have the courage to keep our light shining brightly, even in the face of opposition. Wiping Away the Past, Focusing on the Present

"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:13-14 (KJV)

Driving to work on a rainy morning, I found myself struggling with the intermittent wipers on the front windshield. As I focused on clearing the rear window, which had become opaque with rain, I inadvertently missed my turn. This experience serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of focusing on the present rather than becoming mired in the past.

In life, we often find ourselves dwelling on past mistakes, regrets, or even successes. While it is important to learn from our experiences, we must not allow them to consume us to the point where we lose sight of the present and the opportunities that lie ahead.

The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, emphasizes the significance of letting go of the past and pressing forward: "But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ." (Philippians 3:7, KJV). Paul understood that his past, both his accomplishments and his failures, had to be put in perspective to fully embrace his new life in Christ.

Just as I had to refocus my attention from the rear window to the road ahead, we must learn to shift our focus from the past to the present. We cannot allow ourselves to be so consumed by what lies behind that we miss the turns and opportunities God has placed before us.

God's word encourages us to trust in His guidance and to keep our eyes fixed on Him: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6, KJV).

As we navigate the winding roads of life, let us remember to keep our focus on the present, seeking God's direction and trusting in His plan. May we not be hindered by the rains of the past, but instead, press on toward the prize of our high calling in Christ Jesus.

Devotion:

Life is a precious gift from God, filled with both joys and sorrows. If you were offered ten million dollars in exchange for not waking up tomorrow, would you take it? Of course not, because the gift of life is worth far more than any amount of money.

God has blessed us with countless moments of joy - the day you married your spouse, the birth of a child, a new job, a new home. He has surrounded us with the beauty of His creation - stunning sunrises, serene lakes, and the laughter of children.

Yet, there are times when life's challenges can rob us of our song. We may feel overwhelmed by anxiety, sadness, or despair. In these moments, it's essential to step back and consider the bigger picture. Life is a mixture of good and bad days, but every day is a gift from God.

The birds don't need to know everything to sing; they simply have a song in their hearts. In the same way, we don't need to have all the answers to praise God. He has given us a new song, a reason to trust in His goodness and love.

Whatever you're facing today, place it in God's capable hands. He has never dropped anything, and He will never let you down. Choose to enjoy the gift of this day, knowing that it's worth more than millions.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of this day and for putting a new song in my heart. Even when people disappoint me, You have always been kind and faithful. Help me to trust You in both the dark and bright days, knowing that You are always good. Amen.

Not My Kid

Verse: "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus." - Galatians 3:26 (KJV)

When mom was talking about going to the store with her to toddlers And she said to them their cars here in this parking lot so everybody take a hand. The older toddler of hers looked at a boy in front of them that was walking without holding a hand and said what about him he's not holding anybody's hand. And the mom looks down at her toddler and says, "He's not my kid!"

In this busy world, it's easy to look around and compare ourselves to others. We might see someone seemingly getting away with things that we as Christians know are wrong, and wonder why we can't do the same. It's in these moments that we must remember - they're not God's kids.

As children of God, we are called to a higher standard. We bear His name and represent His character to a lost world. Just as the toddler in the story was held to a different standard than the other child because he belonged to his mother, we too are held to a different standard because we belong to God.

It's not always easy to live up to this standard. We may be tempted to follow the crowd or compromise our values for the sake of fitting in. But we must remember that our identity is found in Christ, not in the world.

As sons and daughters of God, we have been adopted into His family through faith in Jesus Christ. This means that we are no longer slaves to sin, but rather we are free to live a life that honors and glorifies our heavenly Father.

So let us not be discouraged when we see others seemingly getting away with things that we cannot. Instead, let us fix our eyes on Jesus and strive to live a life worthy of the calling we have received. For we are not just any kids - we are children of the Most High God.

Embraced by Grace: Living From Acceptance

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:"

In the journey of faith, we often face the towering giant of rejection, a formidable foe that whispers doubts and insecurities into our hearts. Yet, in the battle against this Goliath, we must remember a pivotal truth: we do not fight for acceptance from God; we fight from the acceptance of God.

Consider the moment Jesus emerged from the waters of the Jordan River. Before He had performed any miracles, before He had fed the multitudes or raised Lazarus, God declared from the heavens, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:17 KJV). Jesus had not yet embarked on His public ministry, yet He was already enveloped in the Father's approval.

This divine endorsement was not a result of Jesus's works; it was a testament to His identity. Similarly, our acceptance by God is not a trophy to be earned through deeds or merits. It is a matter of grace, a gift freely given, independent of our actions.

As we navigate through life's challenges, let us draw strength from this profound truth. Our worth in the eyes of the Almighty is not contingent upon our successes or failures. We are cherished because we are His creation, crafted in His image, and redeemed by His love.
