Could Your Parrot Stay? Eph 4:29 #Nightlight #RTTBROS

 

Ephesians 4:29 KJV - 29  Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers

President Andrew Jackson had a pet parrot named Poll which was known for its foul language. The story goes that the parrot started uttering obscenities during the former president’s own funeral and had to be removed.  The African Grey parrot was removed from his funeral at The Hermitage, Tennessee, for swearing so loud and long it disturbed the attendees.

Ephesians 4:29 is a reminder that our words have power and we should use them wisely. Perhaps we can use some truth from this verse to train our Parrot to use our communication for something more noble than swearing.  As a Christian, this verse can be applied in many ways. For example, it can be applied in our relationships with others. We should speak words that are uplifting and encouraging to others instead of tearing them down.

Another way this verse can be applied is in our social media usage. We should be careful about what we post online and how we interact with others on social media. Our words can have a lasting impact on others and we should use them to build others up instead of tearing them down.

Lastly, this verse can be applied in our daily lives. We should strive to speak words that are kind and loving to others. Our words can have a powerful impact on those around us and we should use them to make a positive difference in the world

"And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word."

Acts 6:1-4

There are many things that are important in life, but only a few that are essential. One of the most important but often neglected essentials is time spent in prayer. The great evangelist R.A. Torrey said, "We are too busy to pray, and so we are too busy to have power. We have a great deal of activity but accomplish little. We have many services but few conversions. We have much machinery but few results."

Continued prayer should characterize the life of every believer. Yet often we have so much going on that we "don’t have time" to pray. That is a tragedy because it cuts us off from a vital time of fellowship and communion with God and robs us of the resources that prayer is meant to provide. It is easy to set aside our time of prayer in the hurry and pressure of life, but it is a grave mistake to do so.

The disciples in the early church understood the priority of prayer. Rather than surrender their prayer time to the good and important function of caring for the needs of widows, they called the church to select the first deacons to meet that need. Nothing can substitute for the benefit of the time you spend before the throne of God in prayer.

Today's Growth Principle:
Regardless of what is on your schedule today, you have nothing more pressing than prayer.

BIBLE MEDITATION:

“Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church. Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And…he proceeded further to seize Peter also…. So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison…but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands. Then the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and…follow me.” So…he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John…where many were gathered together praying. Now Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished”

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

Peter was in prison and the church was praying. They had no other recourse. They couldn’t petition the government. They had no political influence, no money to bribe Herod. But they could pray. The world might have laughed, but friend, the devil didn’t laugh.

Someone wisely said, “The devil trembles when he sees the weakest saint upon his knees.” They offered focused prayer to God, and God controls the universe.

Notice it says the church offered constant prayer on his behalf (v. 5). They prayed not only with intensity but with specificity.

What did you pray for this morning? Many of our prayers are so vague (like “Lord, save the lost”), if God were to answer them, we wouldn’t know it. And if God didn’t answer them, we wouldn’t have to admit it.

ACTION POINT:

Stop praying vague, general prayers. Get specific. When they prayed for Peter and the answer came, they knew it was an answer to prayer.

SIX SECRETS OF A SATISFYING Relationships

INGREDIENT #1:  COMMUNICATION

Communication is the lifeline of marriage.  When communication breaks down, the marriage breaks down.

Proverbs 18:21 “.Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

The major reason you have communication problems is you expect your mate to think like you do.

It is not the ability to communicate that is lost when a marriage grows apart.  It is the desire to communicate that undergoes change.  When one or the other no longer wants to be understood or to be understanding, distance will develop.

INGREDIENT #2: CONSIDERATION

Ephesians 5:33  “Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

…considerate…”

A kind person acts in benevolent, gentle, and loving ways. In marriage, kindness is demonstrated through generous acts, considerate behavior, and comforting words. A kind person usually has a mild and pleasant disposition and acts with tenderness and concern for others. A man who brings his wife flowers as a sign of his love and a woman who strokes her husband’s arm as they watch a movie are acting with kindness.

When I’m being considerate, I’m being wise.  The corollary is when I’m being inconsiderate, I’m being stupid.
