Preach the Word
"I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine." - 2 Timothy 4:1-2 (KJV)
In this passage, the Apostle Paul, sensing that his time on earth was short, imparts wisdom and exhortation to his son in the faith, Timothy. Paul's words ring true not only for the times in which they were written but also for the challenges we face in our current culture. As believers, we must heed Paul's charge to "Preach the word" with unwavering commitment and courage.
The temptation to seek popularity and avoid confrontation can be strong for preachers, especially when delivering messages that may not be well-received by the world. However, we must remember that our ultimate goal is to proclaim the whole counsel of God, not just the "happy" or "fun" parts of His Word. We are called to preach the truth, even when it is sobering or uncomfortable.
In our current cultural climate, it is alarming to see how far society has strayed from biblical principles. The rise of "wokeness" and the acceptance of bizarre and unbiblical ideas demonstrate the urgent need for the Church to stand firm on the foundation of God's Word. We must not shy away from addressing the issues of our day in light of Scripture, even if it means facing opposition or ridicule.
Interestingly, we are witnessing a phenomenon where even non-Christians are beginning to recognize the absurdity of some of the ideas being promoted in our culture. They are standing up for truth and common sense, even if they do not yet know the Source of all truth. This should serve as a wake-up call for the Church to be even bolder in proclaiming the gospel and the unchanging truths of God's Word.
As we navigate these challenging times, let us remember Paul's charge to Timothy: "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine." May we be faithful to this calling, relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to give us the courage and wisdom we need to stand firm and proclaim the truth in love.
Let us pray for a renewed commitment to preaching the Word, both in our own lives and in the Church as a whole. May we be a light in the darkness, pointing people to the hope and truth found only in Jesus Christ.
