The Long Haul
"Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." - Galatians 6:9 (KJV)
It's easy to get impatient with progress. We want to see big results and we want them now. But real, lasting change often happens gradually, through small steps consistently taken over time.
Think of a long journey being undertaken on foot. It begins with a single step, then another and another. Mile by mile the destination draws nearer, though it may be weeks or months away. Each day's progress seems tiny compared to what lies ahead. Yet step by step the goal is reached.
In our lives and work, we must adopt this same patient persistence. Keep taking those small steps - read a little each day, save a bit each month, help one person at a time. Do not grow weary or lose heart. Your efforts are accumulating, though you may not notice it. Stay the course and in due time you will reap a bountiful harvest.
As Adrian Rogers said "What you are is God's gift to you, what you become is your gift to God." And as Lao Tzu put it: "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Keep stepping, friend. The long haul will be worth it
