 Devotion: Mastering the Minutes

Proverbs 6:6-11 (KJV) says, "Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man."

This passage speaks to the importance of diligence and hard work. The ant is a small creature, but it is wise and diligent in gathering food during the summer and harvest seasons. It does not need a guide, overseer, or ruler to tell it what to do. It simply knows what needs to be done and does it.

The concept of "Master the minutes and the months and years will take care of themselves" is all about focusing on the present moment and making the most of it. We cannot control the future, but we can control what we do with our time right now. By mastering our minutes, we are taking control of our lives and setting ourselves up for success in the future.

In the passage from Proverbs, the sluggard is warned about the consequences of his laziness. He is told that his poverty will come upon him like an armed man. This is a powerful image that reminds us of the importance of being diligent and hardworking. We cannot afford to be lazy or complacent, for this will lead to our downfall.

But if we are willing to put in the hard work and effort required, we can achieve great things. We can build successful careers, create strong relationships, and make a positive impact on the world around us. All of this starts with mastering our minutes and making the most of every opportunity that comes our way.

So let us take this lesson to heart and commit ourselves to being diligent and hardworking. Let us focus on the present moment and make the most of every opportunity that comes our way. By doing so, we can trust that God will take care of the months and years ahead, and we will be able to achieve the success and prosperity that we desire.
