No Way Out But Up

How did God bring about the miracle of the Red Sea? By shutting His people in on every side so that there was no way out but the divine way. The Egyptians were behind them, the sea was in front of them, the mountains were on both sides of them. There was no escape but from above. Someone has said that the devil can wall us in, but he cannot roof us over. We can always get out at the top. Our difficulties are but God's challenges, and many times He makes them so hard that we must get above them or go under. In the Providence of God, such an hour furnishes us with the highest possibilities for faith. We are pushed by the very emergency into God's best. Beloved, this is God's hour. If you will rise to meet it you will get such a hold upon Him that you will never be in extremities again; or if you are, you will learn to call them not extremities, but opportunities. Like Jacob, you will go forth from that night at Peniel, no longer Jacob, but victorious Israel. Let us bring to Him our need and prove Him true. Cast down, but not destroyed -2 Corinthians 4:9

Ever since the beginning of church history, believers have been in a battle for the truth. That’s why, in today’s reading, Paul admonished Timothy to be faithful—not only in preaching God’s Word but also in refuting false doctrines. Both types of instruction are necessary for the health of a local congregation. False teaching …

• Leads to further ungodliness (2 Timothy 2:16). A false teacher’s words may sound religious, but something counterfeit can never make a person righteous. Apart from the true Word of God (John 17:17), no one can grow in holiness.

• Spreads like gangrene (2 Timothy 2:17). Once deceitful ideas infiltrate a church and are accepted by a few, contagion can ultimately make the entire congregation spiritually sick and prone to ignore the Spirit’s power.

• Overthrows the faith of some (2 Timothy 2:18-19). The church as a whole loses effectiveness when individual members turn away from Christ to embrace error.

If we’re firmly grounded in the Scriptures, we can more easily recognize and flee from seductive ideas that would lead us astray. Accurate knowledge of God’s Word is our best protection.

KNOCKING AT THE DOOR!

"As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: Be zealous therefore and repent. Behold I stand at the door, and knock."-- Rev 3:19-20.

CHRIST KNOCKS at the door when His Judgments are in the earth. That God has arisen to shake mightily the earth is hardly doubtful. This is a day of the Lord of Hosts, when judgments are abroad upon all that is proud and haughty, upon the cedars and the oaks, upon the high mountains and the uplifted hills. But it is at such a time that He draws near to reassure us (Isa 2:11-21; Joe 3:16).

On the eve of the overthrow of the Cities of the Plain, He came to the door of Abraham's tent, partook of his fare, and gave promises of assurance to himself and Sarah which unfolded the Divine Purpose. Standing before the Lord, Abraham was prepared for the tragedy of the morrow, and was permitted an intimacy in which he seemed possessed by a passion for God's rectitude and righteous dealing.

Do not fear the things that are coming, but open to Him who knocks for admission. He has come to spend the dark hours in your fellowship, as a mother runs to her child's cot, when a sudden thunderstorm sweeps the sky.

Christ knocks when we are preparing for some great task. You are going forth on one of His errands, and expect misunderstanding or opposition, or you are uncertain as to your reception. Like Moses, you say: "Send by whom Thou wilt send, but let it not be by me." With Jeremiah, you plead: "I am a child, I cannot speak." Like the Apostles, you have to face a world in arms. At such a time, He waits at the door to encourage and inspire. On the night following the upheaval in the Sanhedrin, where Paul was nearly torn to pieces, the Lord stood by him, and said: "Be of good cheer!"

Christ knocks when bereavement enters our homes. We all know what it is to be full of longing "for the beloved ones, whom we cannot reach by deed or token, gesture or kind speech." The ship's masts have sunk below the rim of the horizon, in the sunset, and we turn back to homes out of which all light has gone. It is then that you may surely expect a gentle knock at the door, and He who came to Bethany when Lazarus died, that He might mingle His tears with those of the sisters, will certainly come to the door of your heart, and knock for admission that He may help to fill the gap.

PRAYER

Come nearer to us than the nearest. Enter our hearts, saying, Fear not, I am with thee, I will help thee. Give us all that we need to enable us to fight the good fight, add finish our course with joy. AMEN.

There is a joy that springs spontaneously in the heart without any external or even rational cause. It is like an artesian fountain. It rejoices because it cannot help it. It is the glory of God; it is the heart of Christ; it is the joy divine of which He says, These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full (John 15:11). And your joy no man can take from you. Those who possess this fountain are not discouraged by surrounding circumstances. Rather, they are often surprised at the deep, sweet gladness that comes without apparent cause-a joy that frequently is strongest when everything in their condition and circumstances would tend to fill them with sorrow and depression. It is the nightingale in the heart that sings at night because it is its nature to sing. It is the glorified and incorruptible joy that belongs with heaven and anticipates already the everlasting song. Lord, give us Thy joy under all circumstances this day, and let our full hearts overflow in blessing to others. That my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full -John 15:11

THE REAR-GUARD

“Goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. ”

—Psalm 23:1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

BUT why “follow” me? Why not “go before”? Because some of my enemies are in the rear; they attack me from behind. There are foes in my yesterdays which can give me fatal wounds. They can stab me in the back! If I could only get away from the past! Its guilt dogs my steps. Its sins are ever at my heels. I have turned my face toward the Lord, but my yesterdays pursue me like a relentless hound! So I have an enemy in the rear.

But, blessed be His name, my mighty God is in the rear as well as my foe. “Goodness and mercy shall follow me!” No hound can break through that defence. Between me and my guilt there is the infinite love of the Lord. The loving Lord will not permit my past to destroy my soul. I may sorrow for my past, but my very sorrow shall be a minister of moral and spiritual health. My Lord is Lord of the past as well as of the morrow, and so to-day “I will trust and not be afraid.”

GRACE ABOUNDING!

"God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work."-- 2Co 9:8.

ABUNDANCE IS characteristic of God! Go forth on a spring morning, and look on the flowers with which He has carpeted the woodlands.

Daisies and buttercups, primroses and cowslips in myriads, bear witness to the prodigality of His thought and power--His thought to fashion, His power to produce. But this profuse carpeting of the earth's nakedness is equalled in the heavens! There, depth opens beyond depth, lighted and inlaid with constellations, and the wonders of the sky answer to those of the earth. How multitudinous is God's creation!

But what shall we say of His Grace? His Joy is unspeakable, His Peace passeth understanding, His Love is beyond knowledge! Get great thoughts of God, who holds the ocean depths as a drop in the hollow of his hand, and weighs the mountains as grains of dust in His scales. Lie upon that bank of flowers, and consider their multitude; sweep the skies with a telescope and see if you can tell the stars; number the sand-grains upon the shore, and count the shells strewn along the strand; and when you have considered the gifts of His hand, ascend to the wealth of His heart. Study the infinite map of God's nature; compare it with the need of your little life, and then remember that the Father loves you infinitely, so much so that for your salvation and mine He gave His Only-Begotten Son. He has set His love upon you, and will certainly deliver you! He will set you on high because you have known His Name. All the resources of eternity and infinity are at His disposal, and He can make all grace abound toward you, that always having all sufficiency in all things, you may abound to every good work.

Iris a very wonderful text! Count the number of universals in it. All Grace Always! All Sufficiency! All things! God abounding to us that we may abound. The word translated abound might be rendered literally "to flow or pour over." "My cup runneth over." Our Lord said: "I am come that they might have life, and have it overflowingly"; "Where sin overflows, grace much more overflows" (Jn 10:10; Rom 5:20).

Let us remember that God does not pour in unless we pour out. If we are filled with the Presence and Grace of Christ in our hearts, we must give ourselves out to others.

PRAYER

Give me grace, O Lord, to see the beauty lying at my feet in the commonplaces of life; and to feel that Thou art as near, and that life is as wonderful today, as when men beheld Thee in the days of Thy flesh. AMEN.

Transplant

Raising rice in the Orient is a beautiful process. The rice is sown on a morass of mud and water ploughed up by great buffaloes. After a few weeks the pale green shoots spring up, appearing above the water. The seed has been sown very thickly and the plants are clustered together in great numbers. The farmer can pull up a score in a single handful. At that point the shoots are ready for transplanting. So God first plants us and lets us grow very close to some of His children. We may be in great clusters in the nursery or the hothouse. But when we reach a certain stage we must be transplanted or come to nothing. God calls us out by His Spirit and Providence into situations where we have to lean directly on Him. He puts upon us a weight of responsibility so great that we are thrown upon the limitless resources of His grace and have an opportunity to develop. Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river (Jeremiah 17:7-8). I called him alone, and blessed -Isaiah 51:2

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:26-28

In the days before GPS, cell phones, and electronic guidance systems, knowing how to read a map was an important skill to have if you were taking a trip. It was important to know the best path that would take you where you needed to go. But even the best maps sometimes lacked necessary information or had not been updated with changes. In those cases, the best thing to do was to stop and ask someone for directions.

All of us face a world around us without a map. We do not know what is coming next. God intends it that way so that we will be forced to live by faith in Him. Yet He does not abandon us to try to blindly stumble through life. Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever” (John 14:16).

In our darkest and most uncertain days, when we don't have any idea what we should do and don't even know what or how to pray, the Holy Spirit will shape and guide our requests to the Father. There is guidance, not from a random stranger who may or may not know what he is talking about, but from the all-knowing Guide who fully understands the path ahead. It is the height of folly for a Christian not to seek that guidance and help.

The wisdom and guidance of God is available to all His children who will seek it from Him.

THE ALL-SUFFICIENCY OF CHRIST

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, saith the Lord God, He which is and which was and which is to come, the Almighty."-- Revelation 1:8 (see note)

IT IS hardly needful to explain that these are the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet. They represent all the intervening letters which they enclose as in a golden clasp. This majestic announcement refers to the Eternal God. His Nature underlies the whole created Universe, all races of being, the entire work of redemption, the destiny of His children, and the ultimate victory of righteousness and peace. "Of Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things, to Whom be glory for ever and ever." Let us, for a moment, join with the ceaseless chant of Heaven, saying: "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty, which is and which was and which is to come." We must never rush into His presence without due preparation and reverence of heart.

Jesus Christ is the Complement of our Need. From the alphabet of His Being we may obtain all the letters and words which will make good our own deficiencies. It is a question whether some of us would ever have learnt the fullness of Jesus, if we had not been brought face to face with the infinite needs of our own nature and condition. You may engage your guide in an Alpine village, but you only realise all the qualities that lie hidden within him when you have crossed the glaciers, bridged the yawning chasms, and escaped the descending avalanche through his knowledge and care. So as we walk with Jesus we find in Him the complement of our need.

Loneliness is an opportunity for Jesus to make Himself known as the Living One (Rev 1:17). When, like the beloved Apostle on the Lord's Day in his lonely isle, you seem to hear songs and prayers on which you can only join in spirit, turn to the Lord Himself, and reckon on Him to bear you company. That loneliness constitutes a claim on Him! Call upon His Name out of the lowest dungeon. He will not hide His ear at thy breathing or thy cry. He will draw near in the day when thou callest upon Him, and will say, Fear not! He will plead the causes of thy soul; He will redeem thy life. The site of Polycarp's death is still visible above the Smyrna coast-line and harbour; but Jesus stood there with him, enabling him to be faithful unto death, and encircling his brow with the Crown of Life. Be thou faithful unto death; the First and the Last is with thee! "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me!"

PRAYER

Be Thou, O Lord, the Alpha and the Omega of every year, month, day, hour, and act of my life. Let all things be begun, continued and ended in Thee. AMEN.

It needs a good ear to catch the voice of the Lord in our sorrows. I think it requires a better ear to discern the voice amid our joys! The twilight helps me to be serious; the noonday glare tends to make me heedless.

“And they follow Me!” Discernment is succeeded by obedience. That is the one condition of becoming a saint—to follow the immediate call of the Lord. And it is the one condition of becoming an expert listener. Every time I hear the voice, and follow, I sharpen my sense of hearing, and the next time the voice will sound more clear.

“And I give unto them eternal life.” Yes, life is found in the ways of a listening obedience. Every faculty and function will be vitalized when I follow the Lord of life and glory. “In Christ shall all be made alive.”

My Saviour, graciously give me the listening ear! Give me the obedient heart.

Ask Big Blessings to Face Big Tests

I once heard an old man say something that I have never forgotten. "When God tests you it is a good time for you to test Him by putting His promises to the proof. Claim from Him just as much as your trials have made necessary." There are two ways of getting out of a trial. One is simply to try to get rid of the trial, and be thankful when it is over. The other is to recognize the trial as a challenge from God to claim a larger blessing than we have ever had. We should greet it with delight as an opportunity of obtaining a larger measure of divine grace. Thus even the adversary becomes an auxiliary, and the things that seem to be against us turn out to be for the furtherance of our way. Surely, we are to be more than conquerors through him who loved us (Romans 8:37). Blessed Rose of Sharon Breathe upon our heart, Fill us with Thy fragrance, Keep us as Thou art. Then Thy life will make us Holy and complete; In Thy grace triumphant, In Thy sweetness, sweet. Prove me now herewith -Malachi 3:10

Ten Strategies of the enemy...he’s working against every area of our lives.  Don’t let him win!
1. Against your  PASSION! He seeks to dim your desire for prayer and to downplay the potency of your most strategic weapon. 
2. Against your FOCUS… He disguises himself and manipulates your perspective so you focus on the wrong culprit.
3. Against your IDENTITY… He magnifies your insecurities leading you to doubt what God says about you.
4. Against your FAMILY… He wants to disintegrate your family and divide your home. 
5. Against your CONFIDENCE...He constantly remind you of your past mistakes and bad choices to convince you that you are under God’s judgment rather than under his forgiveness.
6. Against your CALLING… He amplifies fear, worry and anxiety until they are the loudest voices in your head.

Never Enough

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Hebrews 13:5-6

A few years ago, the Wall Street Journal reported: “A pair of True Religion’s Super T jeans, identifiable by their over-sized white stitching, cost around $50 a pair to make, were sold wholesale at $152, and retailed for $335. One brand consulting expert noted, 'The cost of creating those things has nothing to do with the price. It is all about who else is wearing them, who designed them, and who is selling them.'”

It isn't on any list of businesses you might find, but much of our world is shaped and directed by the discontent industry. Advertising, media, and public figures all send us the message that what we are or what we have doesn't measure up, and we should be looking for something new. If we just got that car or this house or that perfume or this job, we could be happy, the message tells us. But it is a false promise. A person who is not content with what they have today will not be content with what they get tomorrow, no matter how great or impressive it is.

The only true source of contentment is found in the person of Jesus Christ, who has graciously given us much more than we deserve and who has promised to meet every need that we have. David wrote, “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over” (Psalm 23:5). Faith believes that God will keep His promises, and that in having Him we already have everything we need. That is our most powerful protection against the sin of covetousness.

Keep The Fire Bright

Let us abide in Him. It is much easier to keep the fire burning than to rekindle it after it has gone out. Let us not have to remove the cinders and ashes from our hearthstones every day and kindle a new flame; but let us keep it burning and never let it expire. Among the ancient Greeks the sacred fire was never allowed to go out. So, in a higher sense, let us keep the heavenly flame aglow upon the altar of our hearts. It takes much less effort to maintain a good habit than to form it. A true spiritual habit once formed becomes a spontaneous tendency of our being, and we grow into delightful freedom in following it. Let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works (Hebrews 6:1); whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing (Philippians 3:16). Every spiritual habit begins with difficulty and effort and watchfulness. But if we will only let it get thoroughly established, it will become a channel along which the currents of life will flow with divine spontaneousness and freedom. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him -Colossians 2:6

The Standard
God loves us so well that He will not permit us to take less than His highest will. Some day we shall thank our faithful Teacher who kept the standard inflexible and then gave us the strength and grace to reach it. We shall thank Him who would not excuse us until we had accomplished all His glorious will. Let us be inexorable with ourselves. THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

"In that same hour He rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, I thank Thee, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, that Thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: yea, Father; for so it was well pleasing in Thy sight."-- Lk 10:21.

IN THAT same hour. It was an hour of great congratulation for the little band of disciples. The seventy had returned with joy. They had tried the talisman of His Name with demons and disease, and it had triumphed. Our Lord yielded to the gladness of His followers, and gave Himself up to an unusual burst of happiness.

Notice His habitual mode of address to God. Twice He speaks to Him as Father. Thus in joy, equally as in the sorrow of Gethsemane and the anguish of death, the Fatherhood of God was the Rock of Ages to the Man Christ Jesus, in the cleft of which He hid Himself. Only Jesus knew what God was and could be to the lonely soul. As the mountain is reflected in the lake at its foot, so the Father saw Himself perfectly reflected in Jesus.

Inscribed over the portico of an Egyptian temple are these words: "I am he that was and shall be, and no man hath lifted my veil." In this connection it is significant that when our Saviour died, the veil of the Temple was rent from the top to the bottom. Before that hour the knowledge of God had been confined to the few elect souls, and to these it came as through a glass darkly; but from that hour the innermost secret of God's love has been disclosed. And that unveiling of the Father's heart is typical of the work of our Lord for us all.

We must be child-like. The ways of God are revealed unto babes. The child is pure; is humble. It is to the transparent and simple heart that Jesus waits to give Himself.

We must be prepared to say Yes to God. Our Lord was face to face with one of the great mysteries of Providence; why certain things are hidden from some and revealed to others; but He rolled the whole perplexity back on the Father, and was at rest. When in a deaf and dumb school, a visitor wrote on the blackboard: "Why did God make you deaf and dumb, and me able to speak and hear?" One of the children took the chalk and wrote beneath: "Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Thy sight."

We must pass on to others what we know. He will not teach us merely for our own gratification, but that we may benefit others thereby.

The graceful dress of the Hindu woman is fastened upon her person by means of a single knot. The long strip of cloth is wound around her so that it falls in soft folds like a ready-made garment. The end, however, is fastened by a little knot, and the whole thing hangs by that single fastening. So it is in the spiritual life; our habits of grace can be compared to garments. It is also true that the garment of love, which is the beautiful adorning of the child of God, is entirely fastened by little nots. If you will read First Corinthians chapter 13 with care, you will find that most of the qualities of love are purely negative. Love . . . envieth not, love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil. Here are "nots" enough to hold on our spiritual wardrobe. Here also are reasons enough to explain the failure of so many, and the reason why they walk naked, or with torn garments, allowing others to see their shame. Let us look after the nots. LOOK at Lot. He was a man of the world, sharp as a needle, having an eye to the main chance. He boasted to himself that he always “took in the whole situation.” He said that what he did not know was not worth knowing. But such “knowing” men have always very imperfect sight. Lot saw “all the well-watered plain of Jordan,” but he overlooked the city of Sodom and its exceedingly wicked and sinful people. And the thing he overlooked was the biggest thing in the outlook! It was to prove his undoing, and to bring his presumptuous selfishness to the ground.

Look at Abram. His spirit was cool and thoughtful, unheated by the feverish yearning after increased possessions. He had a “quiet eye,” the fruit of his faithful communion with God. He was more intent on peace than plenty. He preferred fraternal fellowship to selfish increase. And so he chose the unselfish way, and along that way he discovered the blessing of God. “The Lord is mindful of His own. He remembereth His children.” In the unselfish way we always enjoy the Divine companionship, and in that companionship we are endowed with inconceivable wealth.

Yeah, that's what sometimes people say in relationship, she completes me he completes me. Jesus completes us. He's the one that was designed to complete us because we were designed to be in relationship with God. And Christ is the WAY TO HAVE relationship with God. And you may wonder what that has to do with birds. Vance havner, graduated at the same class as Billy Graham out of Columbia Bible Institute. At that time now, Columbia Bible University, he was a great preacher, dynamic preacher, he had a hobby, he loved birdwatching, when he would go to a place he would always take his binoculars and go out and get quiet, and watch the birds and it brought a source of comfort to him.  One of the things that he noted about birds was birds don't sing because they have the answers,  birds sing, because they have a song.  In the Bible we're compared to birds in multiple places.  Jesus would say, consider the the birds of the air. They don't toil and they don't sow into barns, they don't do that kind of stuff,  But God takes care of them.  Then it talks about your worth in other places where God is talking about birds.  He says that a sparrows is sold for half a farthing or you can get to two for a penny, but God notices when one of those sparrows falls out of the air. And then he says, aren't you much more valuable than a sparrow that falls out of the air? But these birds that God watches over them.  They have a song, they don't sing, because they have all the answers but they sing because they're connected to God.  And because they're connected to God, They have a song in their heart. 
    you and I, we don't have all the answers. I don't know what's gonna flow out of all this stuff that's taken place in politics and in our nation right now. I don't have all the answers. But I have a song, because I see Jesus and Jesus has the answers.  His eye is on the Sparrow and I know HE watched me, he is taking care of me.  I'm watching him.  He is the one who has all the answers, I can have a song in my heart and that song is a song of joy, I don't have to be in despair because of this mess that's going on. God never intended this to be the ultimate kingdom, the ultimate kingdom is his kingdom. In fact, he makes it quite plain in the book of Daniel, that all earthly kingdoms will be crushed by a stone that's cut out of a mountain and it rolls down. And it destroys this statue that represents all human government. And that and that stone is Jesus and it becomes an everlasting kingdom. And he's  going to rule with a rod of iron, he's going to rule in a way that none will gain say, he's going to rule in a way that's perfect, and that there'll be no graft or corruption or power politics or back room trading, or all the nonsense that goes on back in DC.    I've been back there, man, I've sat in the offices of congressmen and senators, these guys don't have the answers.  if you you hitch your wagon to any politician, or any political party, they're going to disappoint you. You need to hitch your wagon to Jesus Brother, you need to hitch your wagon to Jesus sister, because he's the one that's got the answers. These political people they don't know.
Now you need to vote,  and vote as biblically as you can for the best candidate you can. But you need to understand something your ultimate allegiance is to Jesus Christ. And because you look to Jesus, you can have a song in your heart. And you don't gotta be in a sense of dismay, 
    Hey, I love you. Jesus loves you. Let's pray. Dear Lord God, I thank you for this day, I pray that you would be with those in leadership in our nation, help them to guide us to a peaceful resolution to this. But Lord also we pray that you would protect our freedoms and protect our ability to be able to have free speech and to vote and to get our message out God we ask for that as well.  Lord we cast all of this on you trusting your watch care, we know that you're taking care of us and we know that you've never fumbled and stumbled you've never made a mistake in the entirety of eternity God we can trust in you. And we just pray that you would be with us in this moment, calm our hearts, and give us back our song because our song comes from watching you not from having all the answers because we know that this side of eternity we won't have all the answers, but you do and we trust you. We don't lean  on our own understanding but in all of our ways we're acknowledging you. Watch out over us as we follow you tonight in Jesus name, amen.

Do you have a night routine? I want to teach you to be still and know that God has got this. I have a morning routine and a night routine. I do things almost exactly the same way in the morning and then right before I go to bed right after I get out of bed, there's a specific order to getting dressed and getting the coffee made and getting my little moped ready and all of that at night before I tuck into bed. I always go in and get me a big old tablespoon of peanut butter and eat it it's Let me tell you a little bit about kind of being still and knowing that God has got this this is redeeming the time brothers podcast podcast by Gene Kissinger, Norman Kissinger, two brothers who spent their lives in ministry and raising large families our desire is to leave a nightlight on for you as we provide a digital place for those who longed to belong. Tonight's nightlight is out of Psalms 23 says He leadeth me beside the still waters, he restores my soul. He leadeth me beside the still water He restoreth my soul. I like those times early in the morning and right at right before I fall asleep at night when it's quiet through my house. There's a sense of stillness that settles over the entirety of creation It feels like and it allows me to have a moment where I can sort of just breathe in and not have to be anywhere and not have to do anything and not have any obligations but just to rest quietly in God. And boy, I need that because sometimes we can get so agitated and upset. We are harried by the wolves of this world as God sheep. We are chased and harassed and and boy we hit those days when it seems like everything goes wrong and it's stressful and you you feel the pressure pounding in around you. That's exactly when you've got to know that it's okay God's got this. Be still and know that God has got this. I like how one one author wrote it. He said I finally reach up and click off the lamp head to bed, embraced by the darkness for a moment I feel the presence of God close by lolling me into sleep and rest the psalmist writes, be still and know that I am God. Sometimes we best commune with God by being quiet and drifting off into slumber by leaning back and abiding in God's presence. The Good Shepherd gives us sheep permission to rest, to be content to be lazy, and to do nothing but enjoy the goodness of God. They're going to be those days. When you feel like you've got to somehow be the manager of the universe and you don't fill up. Melaka athon was a friend of Martin Luther the original Martin Luther not the one of civil rights fame, but the one reformation fame. And his good friend Philip Melaka. Anton was one who sort of sharpened him As iron sharpens iron. And one day Philip was going over the the agenda for the days they would decide what to do. And boy, we need to leave the governance of the universe to God, I used to feel like I was responsible for everybody and everything. And God doesn't even make them do right. So I've got a cast them over onto God, Chuck swindoll. Writing, he talked about how there are days when the best thing you can do is leave it to God. Don't sweat. Don't fret. Don't cry. Don't curse. Don't sweat. Don't fret. Don't cry, don't curse. Just smile and leave it to God. Be still and know that God's got this. You may you may have trouble doing that because

you may be kind of a driven personality like me. One of the fav favorite cartoons I have is the one Garfield where it's about a big, fat lazy cat. And john, his owner comes in and says, tries to wake him up and he says the early bird gets the worm Garfield and he says, show me an early bird and I'll show you a bird with bad breath and who wants worms anyway, kind of thinking. Sometimes we sometimes we feel so driven and so compelled. And God wants us to really move more into the model of Jesus. Think about the ministry of Jesus. Jesus never hurried anywhere, and he never worried about anyone. Jesus never hurried anywhere and he never worried about anyone. What does that mean? That means that he left it to God. What about those that rejected him? What about those that shook their head and said, No, he left them to God the Father and we can leave that our loved ones who don't know Jesus yet to God the Father. Now we witness when there's opportunity we plant seed when we can But ultimately, their relationship with God is between them and God and they have to make that decision. We can't make it for them. And so I think we need to do a little bit of casting today cast our cares upon God. Cast those that we love onto God and just smile and rest and know that God's got this Be still and know that God's got this God bless you. Let's pray. Dear Lord, I thank you for this day. I thank you for these that are under the sound of my voice. I pray that you would bless them and help them to rest well tonight, let them know that you love them and care for them. Just give them your supernatural strength as they go through their days. Help them not to fret, help them not to sweat, help them not to curse. Help them God just to cast their cares upon you. Thank you for all that you have done. Be with us on this night in Jesus name, amen. God bless you have a good night.

What are we gonna DO? Deut 1:26-31

What are we gonna do?

 Tonight's nightlight is out of Deuteronomy chapter one and verse 26. The context is the children of Israel on the border of going into the promised land and there is they're trying to figure out what they're going to do. In relation to that. 
     I want to read Deuteronomy chapter one, certainly, verse 26. "Notwithstanding you would not go up but rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God, and you murmured in your tents and said, because the Lord hated us, he had brought us for out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us, whether Shall we go up our brethren have discouraged our hearts, saying, the people is greater and taller than we, the cities are great and walled up to heaven. Moreover, we have seen the sons of the Anakim come there, (the sons of the Giants there), it says, and then I said unto you, dread not, and don't be afraid, (don't be terrified. Don't be frightened, ) neither be afraid of them, the Lord your God, which shall go before you (listen to that,) the Lord your God, which goes before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you, in the land of Egypt, before your eyes and in the wilderness, where thou has seen how that the Lord thy God, bear thee (and carried you,) as a man does bear his son, in all the way that he went until you came onto this place."

The future has been described as The Undiscovered Country.  Right now we  find ourselves on the precipice of The Undiscovered Country, I don't know how this year is going to turn out. If you would have asked me January 1 of last year to predict how 2020 was going to turn out, I would have failed the task. And if you ask me right now how 2021 is going to turn out with the political upheaval and turmoil, I don't know how it's gonna turn out. What I do know is I can trust an unknown future to known God, I can trust an unknown future to a known God. 
God's hands are strong enough, 
God's mind is smart enough. 
God's strength is great enough that he can get us through this current situation.
    God is not up in heaven, drinking, Maalox wondering what in the world he's going to do. God already declares the end from the beginning. He's not surprised by any event that happens. He has a plan. In fact, we are we are encouraged to understand that in the last days, perilous times will come, there's going to be difficulty and trouble and that trouble will increase more and more as time goes on until the second coming of Jesus Christ, when he's going to split the eastern sky and catch us all away. 
      So we find ourselves asking, what are we going to do? Maybe we should be asking, what are we going to be, because God wants us to be salt and light in these last days. So maybe rather than making resolutions that we're going to exercise and lose weight, and all those kind of things, not that those things are bad, if you want to do those, those are fine. But maybe instead of what are we going to do, we should be asking the question, what are we going to be? 
      We're going to be prayerful. We're going to go to God in Prayer.  right now pastor Andy Albright of the Nazarene Church has been inviting us to engage in 21 days of fasting and prayer and boy, if ever there's ever a time to fast and pray we need to do that right now. 
      We need to be trusting. The same God who's got you through every hard time in your life is the same God that you can trust right now he's gonna be with you. He's gonna be with our nation. Listen God Didn't abandon us. He's still on the throne. Look, no matter who's in the White House. God is on the throne. You can trust Him, 
      
     We can be obedient. I'm going to do whatever God tells me to do moment by moment because he knows everything.  He's the only one that can lead me through this treacherous territory that is around us right now.
     
     We need to be forgiving. There's a lot of unforgiveness that is going on right now. We need to be forgiving people. Why? Because Jesus Christ forgave the individuals that were nailing him to the cross.  He said, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. And you and I are to be Christ like in how we deal with those around us. 
     
     We're to be faithful, faithful to what God has called us to do. Our job is to win the lost at any cost. The reason our nation is in the mess that it's in is because we have not won lost Boys and girls, men and women into the kingdom of God, the people are thrashing around out there that have no idea what direction they're going they call good evil and evil good, Those people need Jesus and once they get Jesus, they're going to understand the answers to all the perplexities that are going on in their life. But until they have Jesus, they're going to continue to thrash around. We need to be faithful, winning the lost in any cost. 
     
     We need to be a Christ follower. It's our job to be authentic believers in the last days, no matter what the society does, no matter what the world does around us. Our job is to be real deal blood bought born again, spirit filled Christians who live out their faith in front of a lost and dying, perverted, corrupt world, so that they can come to know our Savior and be transformed as well.

So the most important thing is not what is in front of you In this Undiscovered Country, the most important thing is who is in front of you.  This passage says, the  the Lord your God, which goes before you, he shall fight for you. So it's not what are we going to do? It's Who are we going to be? It's not what is out in front of us. It's who is out in front of us and who is out in front of us is God. Because when you get when you wake up, and you go into tomorrow, God is already there. 

    Let's pray. Dear Lord, God, I thank you for this day. And I thank you for these dear ones, under the sound of my voice, I pray that you would bless them and be with them. Give them a word of encouragement in the midst of these distressing times. Allow them to know that you love them and care for them, and let them know that you have never ever dropped the ball. You've never ever failed. And God you're moving in this current situation just as surely as you did in in every instance in time past when we were panicked. Thank you that you're able to bring us through. Thank you for going out ahead of us and fighting for us in Jesus name, amen.

Psalm 105:1-15

"COUNT your blessings!” Yes, but over what area shall I look for them? There is my personal life. Let me search in every corner. I have found forget-me-nots on many a rutty road. I have found wild-roses behind a barricade of nettles. Professor Miall has a lecture on “The Botany of a Railway Station.” He found something graceful and exquisite in the midst of its soot and grime. So I must look even in the dark patches of life, among my disappointments and defeats, and even there I shall find tokens of the Lord’s presence, some flowers of His planting.

And there is my share in the life of the nation. “Ye seed of Abraham His servant, ye children of Jacob His chosen.” There are hands that stretch out to me from past days, laden with bequests of privilege and freedom. Our feet “stand in a large place,” and the place was cleared by the fidelity and the courage of the men of old. I have countless blessings that were bought with blood. The red marks of sacrifice are over all my daily ways. Let me not take the inheritance and overlook the blood marks, and stride about as though it were nought but common ground. Mercies abound on every hand! “Count your blessings!”

God wants people whom He can depend upon. He could say of Abraham, I know, him, . . . that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. God can be depended upon. He wants us to be just as decided, just as reliable and just as stable. This is what faith means. God is looking for men on whom He can put the weight of all His love and power and faithful promises. When God finds such a soul there is nothing He will not do for him. God's engines are strong enough to pull any weight we attach to them. Unfortunately, the cable which we fasten to the engine is often too weak to hold the weight of our prayer; therefore, God is drilling us, disciplining us and training us that we may achieve stability and certainty in the life of faith. Let us learn our lessons and let us stand fast. God has His best things for the few Who dare to stand the test; God has His second choice for those Who will not have His best. Give me, 0 Lord, Thy highest choice, Let others take the rest. Their good things have no charm for me, For I have got Thy best. "I WILL establish My covenant.” The good promises of God are never revoked. They are like springs which know no shrinking in times of drought. Nay, in time of drought they reveal a richer fulness. The promises are confirmed in the hour of my need, and the greater my need the greater is my bounty. And so it was that the Apostle Paul came to “rejoice in his infirmities,” for through his infirmities he discovered the riches of Divine grace. He brought a bigger pitcher to the fountain, and he always carried it away full. “As thy days so shall thy strength be.”

So I need never fear that the promise of yesterday will exhaust itself before to-morrow. God’s covenant goes with us like the ever-fresh waters of the wilderness. “They drank of that rock which followed them, and that rock was Christ.” Every fulfilment of God’s promise is the pledge of one to come.

God has no road without its springs. If His path stretches across the waste wilderness the “fountains shall break out in the desert,” and “the wilderness shall rejoice and blossom as the rose.”

We need to watch our prayers as well as watch for the answers to our prayers. It requires as much wisdom to pray rightly as it does faith to receive the answers to our prayers. A Christian confided that he had been in years of darkness because God had failed to answer certain of his prayers. As a result, he had been in a state bordering on infidelity. A very few moments were sufficient to convince this friend that his prayers had been entirely unauthorized and that God had never promised to answer such prayers. They were for things which, in the exercise of ordinary wisdom, he should have accomplished himself. The result was deliverance from the cloud of unbelief which was almost wrecking his Christian life. There are some things about which we do not need to pray as much as to take the light which God has already given. Many people are asking God to give them peculiar signs, tokens and supernatural intimations of His will. Our business is to use the light He has given, and then He will give whatever more we need. Watch and pray -Matthew 26:41

Genesis 15:5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18.

"AND He brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven!” (Ge 15:5)The tent was changed for the sky! Abraham sat moodily in his tent: God brought him forth beneath the stars. And that is always the line of the Divine leading. He brings us forth out of our small imprisonments and He sets our feet in a large place. He desires for us height and breadth of view. For “as the heavens are high above the earth” so are His thoughts higher than our thoughts, and His ways than our ways. He wishes us, I say, to exchange the tent for the sky, and to live and move in great, spacious thoughts of His purposes and will.

How is it with our love? Is it a thing of the tent or of the sky? Does it range over mighty spaces seeking benedictions for a multitude? Or does it dwell in selfish seclusion, imprisoned in merely selfish quest? How is it with our prayers? How big are they? Will a tent contain them, or do they move with the scope and greatness of the heavens? Do they just contain our own families, or is China in them, and India, and “the uttermost parts of the earth”? “Look now towards the heavens!” Such must be our outlook if we are the companions of God.
