Trouble 2 Cor. 7:5 by A.B Simpson

A.B SIMPSON

Why should God have to lead us through troubles and allow the pressure to be so hard and constant? In the first place, it shows His all-sufficient strength and grace much better than if we were exempt from pressure and trial. We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us (2 Corinthians 4:7). Also, it makes us more conscious of our dependence upon God. God is constantly trying to teach us our dependence and to hold us absolutely in His hand and hanging upon His care. This was the place where Jesus Himself stood and where He wants us to stand, not with a self constituted strength, but with a hand ever leaning upon His, and a trust that dares not take one step alone. Troubles teach us trust. There is no way of learning faith except by trial. It is God's school of faith, and it is far better for us to learn to trust God than to escape trials. The lesson of faith, once learned, is an everlasting acquisition and an eternal fortune made. Without trust even riches will leave us poor. We were troubled on every side -2 Corinthians 7:5

Fret Not Ps. 37:7 by F.B Meyer

FRET NOT

"Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him: Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass."-- Psa 37:7.

IT IS a mistake to be always turning back to recover the past. The law for christian living is not backward, but forward; not for experiences that lie behind, but for doing the will of God, which is always ahead and beckoning us to follow. Leave the things that are behind, and reach forward to those that are before, for on each new height to which we attain, there are the appropriate joys that befit the new experience. Don't fret because life's joys are fled. There are more in front. Look up, press forward, the best is yet to be!

Fret not because your ideals appear to mock you. Every ideal which we cherish is the herald and precursor of a reality which, in a better form than ever we dreamed, shall one day come to our possession. The ancient alchemists spent their lives in the pursuit of the Philosopher's Stone, which they thought would turn every substance it touched to gold. They never discovered it, but they laid the foundations of modern chemistry, which has been more fruitful in its blessing to our race than the famous magic-stone would have been. Who shall say that those old explorers were deceived? Was not God leading them on, by a way that they knew not, to better things than they dreamed?

Fret not because the future seems dark. After all, the troubles we anticipate may never really befall. It is a long lane without a turning, and the dreariest day has some glint of light. In any case, worrying will not help matters; it can alter neither the future nor the past, though it will materially affect our power in dealing with troubles. It will not rob to-morrow of its difficulties, but it will rob your brain of its clear-sightedness, and your heart of its courage. Let us turn to God with faith and prayer, looking out for the one or two patches of blue which are in every sky. And if you cannot discover any where you are, dare to anticipate the time when God shall make all things work together for good to them that love Him.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we have been careful and troubled about many things. Forgive us, and breathe into our hearts a great faith in Thee, that doubts and fears may not be able to break in on our peace. Fence us around to-day as with a wall of fire; let us hear Thy voice saying: Fear not, I am with thee. AMEN.

A.B SIMPSON

We must recognize the true character of our self-life and its real virulence and vileness. We must consent to its destruction, and we must take it ourselves, as Abraham did Isaac, and lay it at the feet of God in willing sacrifice. This is a seemingly impossible task for the natural heart, but the moment the will is yielded and the choice is made, we are astonished to find that the agony is over and death is accomplished. Usually the crisis in such cases hangs upon a single point. God does not need to strike us in a hundred places to inflict a death wound. There is one point that touches the heart and that is the Point God usually strikes. It will likely be the dearest thing in our lives, the decisive thing in our plans, the citadel of our wills, the center of our hearts. And when we yield there, there is little left to yield anywhere else. But when we refuse to yield at that point, a spirit of evasion and compromise enters into all the rest of our lives. Let us take Him to enable us to will His will in all things in our lives. Now mine eyes seeth thee -Job 42:5

The Worthy Walk Eph 4:1-3 by Dr Paul Chappell

RTTBROS

The Worthy Walk
by Dr. Paul Chappell

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Ephesians 4:1-3

God takes us into His family and gives us His name when we are saved. But in return, He expects us to live up to that name. We have a purpose here on Earth. We are not just passing time until we get to Heaven. We have a calling and a purpose and a destiny, and we are called to live up to it, day after day. Horatius Bonar wrote, “If you are Christians, be consistent. Be Christians out and out; Christians every hour, in every part. Beware of halfhearted discipleship, of compromise with evil, of conformity to the world, of trying to serve two masters—to walk in two ways, the narrow and the broad, at once. It will not do. Halfhearted Christianity will only dishonor God, while it makes you miserable.”

The calling of God is not just for people in full-time ministry. It is for every believer. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). God has a work for you to do, and He is calling you to live in such a way that the work will not be hindered. God certainly does not need our help to accomplish His purposes, but He has given us the opportunity to glorify Him through our service. But we only bring Him that glory if our daily lives are characterized by having a right relationship with Him and with others.

We must not allow pride to come between us and God. We must not allow hurt feelings or impatience to come between us and other Christians. Only when both of these relationships are right can we do all that God has set before us to accomplish.

Today's Growth Principle:
Working for God in any role is a high honor, and we should strive to be worthy to do His work.

Shoot the Dog By Norman Kissinger

These 20 years ago a no-nonsense Missouri-minded farmer friend of mine was asked by is next door neighbor to kill his sick dog. The neighbor did not have the heart to do it and his family was to attached to the animal. A verbal agreement was made and my farmer friend went home. When he got to his house, approximately a quarter mile away, he pulled out old trustee, his deer rifle, put her over the fence post and from over 300 yards made a clean shot of the dog in the neighbor's yard. Not bad for a Missouri deer hunter. We have pretty good shots here in the Show Me State. Old reliable was lovingly put back in her place of rest and the deed of mercy was done.

About 15 minutes later the neighbor came driving up my friend’s driveway in a fury. Now I was not in on the conversation, but I believe that the neighbor’s contention was that it was implied that my friend would take Fido off as the family waved goodbye and later the kids would be consoled with the idea that Fido was in heaven with Grandma angel and Uncle Ned angel. Everybody teary but happy that Fido was happy, Grandma was happy, Uncle Ned was happy and so they could be happy too. It did not include Fido laying by his dog house in a pool of blood, having had his life terminated forth with. My farmer friend contended that that was not part of the verbal agreement and the neighbor contended that it was implied in any such agreement.

Now I know my friend will be judged in the court of public opinion so I will take up his case as a court of public opinion self-appointed lawyer. (If you want to see my credentials please give me a few days to get them printed.) Although it is reasonable for the neighbor to assume that taking Fido for a private Grandma Angel experience, it was never stated in the verbal contract. I believe that my client has the legal grounds for acquittal based on the verbal contract not being clear.

It is hoped that the neighbors laugh about it looking back. Maybe the relationship began to improve by a friendly wave as the neighbor took the family off to trauma-inform therapy. Maybe there was, after a long discussion, an invite to a barbecue. Time tends to heal all wounds-except for the dogs.

Thinking back on my friends experience, I would like to offer two lessons. The first is from a counselor perspective: communication, communication, communication, people. If my friends would have communicated clearly then this sad tale would have never happened. You need us counselors way more than you know. It is all fun and games until the dog gets shot.

The second lesson is that God is often like my friend. We ask Him to do something and sometimes He just shoots the dog. God tends to take the quickest and most efficient route to get done what needs to be done. When we finally get ourselves to a place where we are praying for the things we should be praying for He immediately goes to work with my no-nonsense Missouri minded friends gusto. As an example of this every Christian at one time or another has prayed for patience. God then blesses us with all kinds of trials so that we can learn patience. That's not what we really mean. What we really mean is we want Him to come down and invade is with some sort of a spiritual power that makes us immediately Mother Teresa. We want it done our way without pain or effort or any real change.

But God has a more efficient way-he shoots the dog. He goes directly to what needs to happen to fix the problem in the most efficient way and the most effective way that it can be done. We misunderstand God because He's about the end result and we're about it happening in a way that is to the least inconvenience or emotional stress to us. God is not worried about our inconvenience or emotional stress. He is worried about conforming us to the image of Christ and the direct route is the quickest way to get there.

We ask God to do something and when it is painful hard or discouraging we say yes Lord I wanted it but not that way. Interestingly enough we serve a God that is bigger than our understanding and not only knows what we need but knows how we need it.

In my sad tale my friend probably should have given his neighbor the Grandma and Uncle Ned angel experience. But I guarantee you that when it comes to our spiritual growth and answered prayers, God is just going to shoot the dog.

The Importance of Teamwork

by Dr. Paul Chappell

But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's. But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel. Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.

Philippians 2:19-23

The first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, did not talk about that experience very much. He explained that as a pilot, he perferred talking about flying to talking about landing. But at an event celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the moon landing, Armstrong said, “I was aware that this was a culmination of the work of 300,000 or 400,000 people over a decade.” When Neil Armstrong died, his fellow astronaut Jim Lovell said, “His favorite part was being part of a team.”

Though each of us must do our part in the work of the Lord, it is not an individual project, but rather a team effort. And each member of the team must do his or her part. Imagine what would have happened to Armstrong and his fellow astronauts if people in engineering, construction, or flight planning had decided that because their faces would not be on television, their jobs were unimportant and they did not need to do them diligently and well. Disaster would have surely followed.

The Lord's work deserves the very best we can give it. Whether anyone knows who we are does not matter. There are no crowns for fame, but rather for faithfulness. Every task God places before us matters. As the saying goes, “Even if the task is not worthy of you, diligence is.” Rather than seeking glory and self-promotion, we should rejoice to be part of the team God has called to do His work.

Today's Growth Principle:
There are no little jobs in God's work, and everything we do for Him deserves our very best.

Why have you not received all the fullness of the Holy Spirit? Do you not long to be anointed with the rest of the oil? (Leviticus 14:17-18). Look around you at your situation. Are you not conscious of many needs at this very moment and almost overwhelmed with difficulties, trials and emergencies? These are all divinely provided vessels for the Holy Spirit's filling. If you would only understand their meaning, they will become opportunities for receiving new blessings and deliverances which you can obtain in no other way. Bring these vessels to God. Hold them steadily before Him in faith and prayer. Keep still. Cease your own restless working until He begins to work. Do nothing that He does not Himself command you to do. Give Him a chance to work, and He will surely do so. Then the very trials that threatened to overcome you with discouragement and disaster will become God's opportunity for the revelation of His grace and glory in your life, as you have never known Him before. Bring them [all needs] to me. Bring them hither to me -Matthew 14:18

THE MESMERISM OF THE WORLD
Matthew 19:23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30.

MATERIAL possessions multiply our spiritual difficulties. It is hard for a rich man “to enter into the kingdom of heaven.” For what is the kingdom? It is “righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” It is easy for a rich man to appear respectable, but how hard is it to be holy! He may surround himself with comforts, but how hard to get into peace! He may move in the cold gleam of a glittering happiness, but how hard to get into the rich, warm quietness of an abiding joy! Yes, our material possessions so easily range themselves as ramparts between us and our destined spiritual wealth.

And if we find that any material thing so mesmerizes us that we are held in fatal bondage, we are to sacrifice it. “If thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee!” Whatever interposes itself between us and our Lord must go! It is a hard way, but it leads to a sound and boisterous health. We verily “receive an hundredfold!” We lose “a thing,” and gain a grace. We lose fickle sensations and gain abounding inspiration. We lose the world, and gain the Lord!

Chosen and Placed JN. 15:16 by F.B Meyer

#MorningGlory
RTTBROS

F.B Meyer
CHOSEN AND PLACED

"Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit."-- Joh 15:16.

WE DID not choose Him--there we have the evil of the human heart, the film of blindness which sin casts on the sight, the deafness with which it dulls the ear. For to have missed Jesus, to pass Him by, is as though the pearl-hunter were unable to recognize the pearl of greatest price; or the mother to recognize her own babe; or the seeker after the holy grail to fail to discover its mystic sheen!

"But I chose you." He chose us probably because we were useless and helpless, and He wanted to show what supreme miracles His grace could achieve. The prophet says that the branches of the vine are more useless than any others (Eze 16:1-5). The principle of God's choice is to take what all others reject--the fire-brand plucked from the burning, the feebly-smoking tow, the bruised reed; the younger sons, the halt and lame, the last and least; the things that are foolish, despised, and weak--these are God's choice, that He may bring to nought things that are, that no flesh may glory in His presence.

There was no error in the foreknowledge which preceded our election. God knew all that we were, all that we should be. He foresaw our down-sittings, our hours of depression, our obstinacy, our wanderings into the far country, but He swerved not. Having chosen us, He is going to justify His choice, unless we definitely refuse to let Him have his way.

"'And appointed you.'" Our Master has placed us just where we are, that He might have a suitable outlet for His abundant life, which He longs to pour forth upon the world. Do not repine or murmur at your lot in life, but remember that He has appointed and placed you there. As the branch is nailed to the wall that it may cover it with foliage and fruit, so Christ has placed you where you are. That inevitable circumstance is the rough piece of cloth, that sorrow is the nail, that pain the restraint such as He suffered on the Cross.

"That ye should go." "Whither, Master? .... Into all the world, as My disciples! I have chosen you out of it and now I send you back as My representatives, through whom I may pour out My life and love. Go and bear fruit!"

PRAYER

O Heavenly Master, enable us by Thy grace to fill the opportunity, and do the work that Thou hast assigned. May we not murmur or complain because our place is obscure and the time long, but bear much fruit for Thy glory. AMEN.

Decisive

If you seem to have so much fighting to do, it may be because you did not have one sharp, decisive battle to begin with. It is far easier to have one great battle than to keep on skirmishing all your life. I know men who spend forty years fighting what they call their besetting sin, and on which they waste strength enough to evangelize the world. Does it pay to throw away your lives? Why not have one battle, one victory and then praise God. There is labor to enter in. The height is steep; the way of the cross is not an easy way. It is hard to enter in, but having entered in, there is perfect rest. And when he giveth you rest from all your enemies round about (Deuteronomy 12:10). May God help us and give us His perfect rest. 0 come, and leave thy sinful self forever Beneath the fountain of the Saviour's blood; 0 come, and take Him as thy Sanctifier, Come thou with us and we will do thee good. Warning Matt 24:37-39 by Dr. Paul Chappell

#MorningGlory
RTTBROS

The Ignored Warning

by Dr. Paul Chappell

But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Matthew 24:37-39

The people of Noah's day had no excuse for not knowing that the flood was coming. For decades, Noah worked on the ark, but he was not just a builder. For all of those years, Noah was warning people about God's coming judgment. Peter tells us, “And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly” (2 Peter 2:5). If the people had believed Noah's admonition, they would not have been surprised when the rains began and the water started to rise. By the time they did believe, it was too late.

The daily activities of life, meals, and marriages, are not wrong. But if we are not careful, they will fill up our time and hold our attention so strongly that we will miss what God is saying. Charles Spurgeon said, “These things engrossed all their thoughts. And yet, friends, and yet, what was the use of eating and drinking when they were to be drowned the next day? And what was the use of being married, when they were to be drowned on the morrow? If they had looked at these things in the light of faith, they would have despised them; but they only used the blear eye of sense, and thus they set great store upon these present things of mirth.” God does not hide the truth from us. It is plainly given in His Word. But it is our responsibility to heed His warnings and admonitions and live as He directs.

Today's Growth Principle:
We must keep our hearts and minds tuned to hear what God is saying amid the busyness of life.

From Bitter To Blessed Ps. 42:1 By A.B Simpson

A.B SIMPSON
From Bitterness to Blessing
In order to enter into a life of consecration, there must be a sense of need-the need of purity, of power and of a greater nearness to the Lord. Christians often experience a second conviction. It is not now a sense of guilt and God's wrath so much as of the power and evil of inward sin, and the dissatisfaction with the life the person is living. It usually comes from the deeper revelation of God's truth, from more spiritual teaching, from definite examples and testimonies of this life in others. Or it may result from an experience of deep trial, conflict and temptation in which the Christian has found his attainments and resources inadequate for the real issues and needs of life. The first result is often a deep discouragement and even despair, but the Valley of Achor is the door of hope, and Romans 7 with its bitter cry, 0 wretched man that I am (7:24) is the gateway to Romans 8 with its shout of triumph, The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death (8:2). As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, 0 God -Psalm 42:1

I am the Lord's then the Lord is mine. If Christ owns me I own Him. And so faith must reach out and claim its full inheritance and begin to use its great resources. Moment by moment we may now take Him as our grace and strength, our faith and love, our victory and joy, our all in all. And as we thus claim Him we will find His grace sufficient for us, and begin to learn that giving all is just receiving all. Consecration is taking Jesus fully in exchange for our own miserable lives. There are two persons involved in such consecration. One of them is the Lord Himself. And for their sakes, He says, I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth (John 17:19). The moment we consecrate ourselves to Him, He consecrates Himself to us. Thereafter the whole strength of His life and love and everlasting power is dedicated to keep and complete our commitment to Him and to make the very best and most of our consecrated lives. Who would not give himself to such a Savior? Today, let us first give ourselves to Jesus, and then present to Him each moment as it comes, to be filled and used. Consecrated by God Mark 11:24 by A.B Simpson

#MorningGlory
RTTBROS

A.B SIMPSON

Consecration is entered into by an act of faith. We are to take sanctification as a gift from God, believing and confessing that we have it. We must step out on it firmly. We must let the devil also know we have it. When once we tell the Lord, boldly, "I am yours, "He answers back from the heavenly heights, "You are Mine, and the echoes go ringing down through all our lives, "Mine!" "Yours!" If you dare confess Christ as your Savior and Sanctifier, He has bound Himself to make these truths a reality. But you must stand behind His mighty Word. It is the essence of testimony to tell what Jesus has promised to become to you. It is right to have a glorious word of testimony. God would have us put our seal on the promises and lift up our hands and acknowledge them as ours. Then you are to ignore the old life and reckon it no longer yours-even if it should return to trouble you again. Every time it appears say, "This is from the underworld. I am sitting in the heavenly places with Christ." When ye pray, believe that ye receive -Mark 11:24

Tempted. by Mart Dehaan

'Irresistible' Temptations
Bible in a Year:

Leviticus 13 Matthew 26:26-50
Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. —

Matthew 4:1
Today's Scripture:
Luke 4:1-13
Before I was old enough to get a driver’s license, I often thought about what it would be like to drive on the open road. I was afraid I would be tempted to go as fast as the car would go. I didn’t know if I would have the self-control to drive according to the speed limit and driving conditions. When I turned 16, though, I realized it was possible to control an accelerator instead of being controlled by it.

Have you ever heard about someone who justified his sin, claiming that the temptation was so irresistible that he had no other choice? Or have you ever wondered whether a certain questionable activity might actually be all right for you? After all, you reasoned, didn’t this unique opportunity come along at just the right time and provide just what you thought you needed?

We learn from the temptation of Jesus Christ that when we have an occasion to sin, God will always provide a way for us to escape or He will give us the strength to resist it (Lk. 4:1-13; 1 Cor. 10:13). By relying on the Holy Spirit and the Word of God as Jesus did, we can resist temptation rather than be ruined by it.

For the Christian, there is no such thing as an irresistible temptation.

Burdens Ps 55:22 by A.B Simpson

BURDENS
Sometimes when we bring a burden to God, we do so much groaning over it that it seems as though God is having a dreadful time, too. In reality it does not burden Him at all. God says in effect, "It is a light thing for Me to do this for you." Our load, though heavy for us, is not heavy for Him. Christ carries the whole on one shoulder, not two shoulders. The government of the world is upon His shoulder, and He is not struggling and groaning with it. His mighty arm is able to carry all our burdens. There is power in Christ for our sanctification. Yes, the Lord can sanctify, the Lord can heal, the Lord can do anything. You must have faith in God. If you come to a river this morning, will it take you as the mighty Niagara would take a little boat and carry you along-to a precipice? Oh, no, but to the heart of love and blessing forever. Oft there comes a wondrous message, When my hopes are growing dim, I can hear it thro' the darkness Like some sweet and far-off hymn. Nothing is too hard for Jesus No man can work like Him. Cast thy burden on the Lord -Psalm 55:22

Changing the Rules By Norman Kissinger

By Norman Kissinger

I worked in the Department of Corrections many years ago and worked with offenders with strong antisocial personality disorder tendencies. I noticed that one of the issues they dealt with was that they attempted to get every problem solved through their very defined antisocial set of rules.

Their rules were very selfish, one sided and dysfunctional but they could not solve any problem without referring to that dysfunctional set of rules and expecting the world to play in the same way.

Offenders are not lawless. Their rules are so dysfunctional they do not work to solve life's problems. It is much like having an old computer program and attempting to use it to run a Fortune 500 company.

This creates a victim mentality where a serial killer can justify his behavior and see himself as a victim. Society is violating his rights because they are not playing by his rules. It may blow your mind that somebody could justify that evil of behavior, but the offenders do it all the time and they are at least sincere in that they truly believe they are victims of a society that treats them unfairly.

Their dysfunctional set of rules protects them from the truth and therefore functions as an old-time ego defense mechanism. They certainly have no excuse for their behavior. The reason for developing this rule system is to protect their ego and make it possible for them to justify their behavior.

I would say we are no different than them. Over a lifetime we develop our own set of rules on how life should work and how we and everybody else should act and we attempt live a successful life using that set of rules to work from.

The problem is it works no better for us than it does for the offender. The only difference between us and them is some of our rules are functional and social and therefore we can stay out of prison but in a spiritual sense and in a lot of our interpersonal relationships we do not have much better success.

There are hundreds of personal rules that fit into this category but as an example many people on social media brag on their personal rules such as speaking their mind and telling people the truth. Another rule they live by, that is not often unconscious, is that they do not allow other people to speak their mind to them. A system where I speak my mind, but other people cannot speak back is not very functional. It is a recipe for a lot of drama.

Success in life is not by so much changing behavior and attitudes but taking a good hard look at the fundamental rules we live by and deciding how truly functional they are.

But on a social level we see this all the time. The modern humanistic world expects that everyone has the right to live by their own set of rules and values and no one else should question those.

Everyone shouts that their rules and value systems should be respected and accepted by everyone, but those same folks are completely unable to accept the value systems of others or to tolerate them. A recipe for more drama.

The Christian has a unique mandate in this matter. I have plenty of rules to live my life by but if Jesus is truly Lord of my life and I am truly saved then those rules mean diddly squat.

What does my Lord say is right or wrong? We have an entire manual of 66 books that deals with this and if I'm truly a Christian I will use that manual every day and conform my set of rules to what the Bible says are God’s set of rules.

When I talk to young people about whether homosexuality, living together, taking drugs or any other behavior is right or wrong it is really a pointless exercise. If Jesus is not Lord of your life and He is not making the rules, then who cares if you are dating a turtle. Your life rules are no more or less effective, acceptable, or valuable than mine. When people speak of this what they are really saying is they want me to justify their set of rules and for it to be OK with God.

I have a wonderful idea why do not ask God what he wants. He makes it plain in His word what his rules are and if I am truly his follower then I will follow what his word says. And if I'm not I'll do whatever I feel like doing and I'll have to live with the consequences. As I tell people now it's your life in your eternity you better spend it wisely.

It is delusional to live by my set of rules and demand that everybody else consider them valid. It is also delusional to expect God to be ok with that, like any other person he has his own opinion, and He will not be used.

Good luck in your turtle dating. Or what ever the new life rule is. Later, I may come by and see how that is working for you as the famous TV psychologist says. But don’t expect God to agree. He has His on set of rules to live by and He has as much right to them as you or I.

Oh wait a minute, He is God, He might have more right.

Developed James 1:27 by F.B Meyer

F.B Meyer

THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHRISTIAN CHARACTER

"Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."-- Jam 1:27 (R.V.).

IT IS the experiences of life that reveal us to ourselves. They cannot put into us qualities that are not there, but can develop them. The whole of this wonderful chapter is filled with the diverse discipline of life. "Manifold trials" (Jam 1:2), which probably refer to the persecutions and losses of the early Christians., "Temptations" (Jam 1:12) which refer to the solicitation of evil from without and within. The burning heat of the fire of prosperity (Jam 1:11). The "good gifts" which are strewn around our pathway by the Father of lights--home, parents, friendship, love!

The greatest training-ground for us all is the Word of God (Jam 1:21-25). It is here compared to a mirror which reflects us to ourselves, but alas, too often we go our way and forget what manner of men we are. The human soul has a wonderful habit of forgetting any statements that seem to reflect on itself, and to contradict its own notions of its pride and respectability. If, however, we avoid this mistake, and set ourselves to doing, and not hearing only, then we shall grow into strong, brave, and beautiful souls, and shall be blessed in our deed.

Do not stand gazing at the imperfections which the Word of God reveals but having learnt where you come short, dare to believe that Jesus Christ is the true counterpart of your need; that He is strong where you are weak, and full where you are empty.

"Keep himself unspotted from the world." We love the dimpled innocence and purity of a sweet child. But there is something nobler--the face of man or woman who has fought and suffered in the great battle against corruption that is in the world through lust. To keep oneself unspotted from the evil of the world, though perpetually accosted and surrounded by it, is a greater thing than to live in a glass-house, where the blight and dust cannot enter. What a training for character is this daily warfare!

To visit those in affliction. We are related to the world of pain and sorrow by the troubles which are constantly overtaking those with whom we come in contact in dally life. Where the conditions of life are hard, we obtain our best perfecting in Christian character.

PRAYER

Make our life deeper, stronger, richer, more Christlike, more full of the spirit of heaven, more devoted to Thy service and glory. AMEN.

FILLED

In the last chapter of Exodus we read of all the Lord commanded Moses to do. As he fulfilled these commands the glory of the Lord descended and filled the tabernacle until there was no room for Moses. From that time the pillar of cloud overshadowed the tabernacle as Israel's guide and their protection. Even so we have been building as the Lord Himself commanded, and now the temple is to be handed over to Him, to be possessed and filled. He will so fill us, if we will let Him, that self and everything else will be taken out of the way. The glory of the Lord will fill the temple, encompassing, lifting, guiding, keeping; and from this time our moon shall not withdraw its light, nor our sun go down. Do you want power? You have God for it. Do you want holiness? You have God for it. You have God for every need! He is bending down from His throne today to lift you to your true place in Him. From this time on may the cloud of His glory so surround and fill us that we shall be lost sight of forever. And the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle -Exodus 40:35

LIGHT IN DARKNESS

"The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwelt in the land of deep darkness, upon them hath the light shined."-- Isa 9:2 (R.V. marg.).

AS EVERY one is affected by the first man, Adam, so every one has a direct claim upon Jesus Christ, the second Man, whose Death and Resurrection and Ascension affect us all. He is the Light who has shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Because Christ lay upon Mary's breast, and was cradled in her arms, we have been delivered from darkness, and it is possible for us to climb, by the staircase of His Cross, over angels, principalities, and powers, to be seated with Him on His Throne of Glory.

"Unto us a Child is born!" He is Wonderful, because in Him the most marvellous extremes meet. He is the Babe just born, but He is the Ancient of Days who fills space. He grows in knowledge, but in Him are stored the riches of eternal wisdom. He hangs in mortal agony upon the Cross, but He gives life to uncounted myriads. He is laid in a borrowed tomb, but He lives for evermore, and death hath no power over Him!

He is Counselor. Tell Him thy heart's problems. Ask His counsel, and He will not mislead thee. He is the Prince of Peace, and "of the increase of His government" over new regions of the inner life, over new departments of the soul, over new openings, out of your existence, the increase deepening, heightening, widening, of the increase of His government as the years pass, there shall be no end, because the soul of man is infinite, and it will take eternity to bring out all the meaning of the Empire of Christ over our nature.

What is your reply to the claim of Christ? I urge you to-day to humbly put the government of everything that concerns your life upon the shoulders of Christ, and then you will find the joy and peace will increase. Such joy as thou hast never known! Such peace as has never before uttered its benison upon thy heart (Isa 9:3).

PRAYER

We thank Thee, O God, for the Son of Thy Love; for all that He has done for us, and will do; for all that He has been to us, and will be. We know that He holds us in His strong hand, that He loves us with a love that cannot let us go, that we are one with Him in a union which nothing can break. AMEN.

Disqualified

by Dr. Paul Chappell

Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Revelation 3:10-12

On May 1, 2021, Medina Spirit thundered home ahead of the field, winning the 147th Kentucky Derby. As is customary at the world's most famous horse race, Medina Spirit was led to the winner's circle where a huge blanket of red roses was draped over his back. However, when the mandatory drug tests came back, Medina Spirit tested positive for betamethadone, which is a banned steroid. A second test confirmed the positive result, which is grounds for disqualification. This means that crossing the finish line first won't be enough to win the race. The horse had to win within the rules in order for it to count.

The Christian life is the same way. We can lose the rewards and crowns we would otherwise have to give to Jesus if we do not follow the rules God has laid out for us. Paul used being disqualified from a competition as a metaphor in his warning to Timothy to stay on track in the Christian life. “And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully” (2 Timothy 2:5). God does not want us to excuse going against His Word to make it easier to accomplish His work. Dr. Bob Jones, Sr., said, “It is never right to do wrong in order to get a chance to do right.”

Today's Growth Principle:
It is a tragedy to lose rewards because we fail to follow the instructions God has given for our lives.

Pledge of Allegiance By Steve Malone

A late #MorningGlory RTTBROS
Sermon by Steve Malone

I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb
Deut. 23:21 Deuteronomy 23:21King James Version (KJV)
21 When thou shalt vow a vow unto the Lord thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the Lord thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.

s.... In keeping with that tradition, I like to remind us of some of the words our founding fathers said in this regard.
"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not but religionists but by Christians, not on religion but on the gospel of Jesus Christ."
-- Patrick Henry [give me liberty or give me death]

"Do not let anyone claim tribute of American patriotism if they even attempt to remove religion from politics."
-- George Washington Farewell Address to Nation

"The 1st amendment has created a wall of separation between church and state, but that wall is a one directional wall, it keeps the government from running the church, but it makes sure that Christian principles will always stay in government."
-- President Thomas Jefferson in an address to Danbury Baptists.

"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our constitution was made for a moral and religious people... it is wholly inadequate to the government of any other..."
-- John Adams

So you can see that despite what modern politicians, the contemporary media or the history revisionists say - America was founded not on the concept of freedom to worship [any God (Buddha, Allah..etc) but on the freedom to worship Jesus Christ.

Today I want to look at the parallel between our founding father’s allegiance to this country and our allegiance to the Lamb, Jesus Christ the Son of God. First we will look at "the patriots" and then "the Christians."

"THE PATRIOTS"

a. They Made a Bold Declaration

For more than 14 months after the Battle at Lexington and Concord (April 19, 1775) the patriots fought not for their independence but rather they fought for their rights within the British Empire. Rights that had been gradually taken away before, and even more after, the Boston Tea Party. And 100’s of Americans gave their lives to regain these rights, 400 alone died at the battle of Bunker Hill.

Then early in the summer of 1776 at a meeting of the continental congress on July 2, 1776, the colonies voted to announce and declare that they would accept nothing less than absolute freedom from England.

2 days later on July 4th, after making some minor adjustments to the text, the final wording was ratified and signed by the 56 members, representing the 13 colonies.

After the declaration was signed couriers took copies of it to George Washington who was with his troops in New York -- and on July 9th the declaration was read before the militia troops who were out in the fields.

Understand, this was a bold declaration, for the Americans were challenging the most powerful empire of the world at the time. And the Americans entered the war without a Navy or an Army. Their fighting forces consisted only of militia units in the various colonies.  On the other side, England had an army of well trained highly disciplined soldiers.

They made a bold declaration -- they had pledged their life and their allegiance to their country...

b. And They Paid a High Price

After the Americans declared their independence, they had to win it by force. The task proved especially difficult, partly because the people never fully united behind the war effort. A large number of colonists (about 1/3) remained unconcerned about the outcome of the war, they were indifferent and supported neither side.

And as many as 1/3 of the population sympathized with Great Britain, the called themselves loyalists (the patriots called them "Tories," the name of the political group in great Britain that adamantly supported the King). These problems meant that victory in the Revolutionary War depended on patriots who made up less than 1/3 of the entire population.

7,200 Americans were killed in battle during the war, 8,200 were wounded, 10,000 died from disease & exposure (nearly 3,000 men died at valley Forge alone), An additional 6,500 died in prison after being captured and 1,400 soldiers were listed as missing.

What about the 56 men who signed the declaration of Independence? Did they pay a price for pledging their allegiance? They sure did, their conviction resulted in untold sufferings for themselves and their families. Of the 56 men, 5 were captured by the British and tortured before they died. 12 had their homes ransacked and burned. 2 lost their sons in the Revolutionary Army. Another 2 sons were captured. 9 of the 56 fought and died from wounds of hardship of the war. Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships sunk by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts and died in poverty. At the battle of Yorktown, the British General Cornwallis had taken over Thomas Nelsons home for his headquarters. Nelson quietly ordered George Washington to open fire on his home. The home was destroyed and Nelson died bankrupt. John Hart was driven from his wife’s beside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields were destroyed. For over a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home only to find his wife had died and his children vanished. A few weeks later, he died from exhaustion.

Now, it’s one thing to make a bold declaration in the comfort of a congressional meeting, but it’s quit another to pay the price, to fulfill that declaration on the field of battle, to pay with blood; - yours - your families - and your neighbors...

Ill.—in the Iraq war many Hollywood stars protested and said they might just have to go over and act as human shields.  How I wish they would have!  Most protesters are all talk and no action.

Our founding fathers made a bold declaration - they paid a high price.

C. And They Reaped a Great Reward

The war that began on April 19, 1775, officially ended when the treaty of Paris was signed in 1783, nearly 2 years after the Great Battle at Yorktown, where 10,000 troops laid down their arms and General Cornwallis hid in a cave.

The Americans made a bold declaration.
They paid a high price.
And they reaped a great reward - they won their freedom, their independence...

And a particular kind of nation was established, a nation where every human being could be free, and have something to say about how they were governed.

But not only did the patriots win their freedom, but at the treaty of Paris in 1783, the US territory doubled in size, as Britain gave the new nation all of the land to the east of the Mississippi River.

And though many signers of that Great Declaration paid a high price, others reaped a great reward. 2 of the signers became Presidents, 10 US Congressman, 19 Judges, 16 became Governors and dozens of others held other high political offices -- not to mention the enduring place they hold in our history.....)

The Patriots:  they made the pledge; paid the price and reaped the reward (freedom, a new land, new country, a bright future - a new beginning)

"THE CHRISTIAN"

a. We Too Made a Bold Declaration

If you are here today and you call yourself a Christian, YOU TOO have made a bold declaration.  I hope you realize what a commitment you have made!

Do you remember the day, when you stood before the body of Christ, when you came forward and confessed Jesus as your Lord & Savior, when you stood before the body proclaiming your desire; to be a Christian, to be united with Christ, having been bathed in his blood?  Courageously announcing that nothing but absolute independence from the shackles of sin and the ways of this world would be acceptable.

In doing this, you were making a bold declaration.

You were at that time pledging your allegiance - your devotion, your loyalty, your dedication, your commitment, your very life, to the Lamb of God, to Jesus Christ. Understand that you were at that time proclaiming what Paul proclaimed in
Galatians 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Friends it is a very bold declaration to say that you will no longer live for yourself, that you will no longer seek your will for your life...that you will no longer live for the things of the world (power, pleasure, popularity and possessions). But rather that you will seek God’s will for your life, seeking to do what pleases him far and above what pleases you! Declaring that He comes first.

Yes it is a very bold declaration to say that you will live for Him who died for you... And if you are here today and a Christian, you have made that declaration.

This declaration is as bold and as powerful as the one Joshua made in Joshua 24:14,15. You remember that one don’t you? God’s people had conquered the Promised Land and were beginning to settle down.

Joshua 24:14-15
14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

When you came to Christ...
When you pledged your allegiance to the lamb...
You were making a very bold declaration.

b. And Like the Patriots You Must Also Pay a High Price

It’s one thing, to make a bold declaration in the comfort of a church building, but it is quite another to live up to it. To pay the price. To fulfill that declaration on the battlefields of our Daily lives. Most times saying words is the easy part, the actions are much tougher.

You know, on that day when Joshua made his bold declaration, he was not alone, others also did, they said the same words (within the comfort of the assembly).

What a declaration by the nation of Israel, they were pledging their allegiance to God - but
Tragically, it didn’t last long. All you have to do is turn the page over to the book of Judges, and you will see recorded how God’s people quickly turned away from him...

Today in Christian America we find that not everyone is committed to the war effort, not everyone who claimed Jesus as their Lord one day in the assembly, has lived up to it in their daily lives.

Yes, some are just like the "Tories" and are still more loyal to the enemy... to sin & Satan.

A final reason our war is hard is because others are like that 1/3 of the colonists and are unconcerned about the outcome of the war... They are indifferent. They are uninvolved. Now they may not directly hinder the war effort and they will certainly want to take part in any benefits, but they will not join in, they will not leave their comfort and safety, they simply watch and critique from the sidelines.

Let’s make no mistake about it - there is a high price to pay to fulfill our declaration - THAT JESUS IS OUR LORD.... Our Lord demands total, radical, unswerving allegiance and this is no secret...Jesus made this clear to us when he walked the earth...

Luke 9:23-26
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? 26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
Luke 14:26-27
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:33
So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

And to pick up your cross daily, to deny self, to die to self...is a high price to pay.

But the reward we shall reap is a great one ---- is worth it!!!!

c. Reap a Great Reward

John 8:32
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:36
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

The declaration is bold "Jesus is my Lord"
The price is high "Die to self"
But the reward is great

The School of Suffering. 1 Peter 5:10 by A.B Simpson

#MorningGlory
RTTBROS

A.B SIMPSON

Are we learning love in the school of suffering? Are our hearts being mellowed and deepened by the summer heat of trial until the fruit of the Spirit-love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance-is ripening for the harvest of His coming, and our sufferings are easily borne for His sake? This is the school of love, and the lessons make Him unutterably more dear to our hearts and us to His. In this way only can we learn with Him the heavenly charity which suffers long, and is kind. We see that the very first and the very last features of the face of love, as delineated in Paul's portrait of it (1 Corinthians 13), are marks of pain and patient suffering-suffers long, endureth all things. So let us learn in the school of love to suffer, to be kind and to endure all things. Surely it will not be hard to love through every circumstance when it is the heart of Jesus within us that will love and continue to love to the very end. I want the love that suffers and is kind, That envies not nor vaunts its pride of fame. Is not puffed up, does not discourteous act, Is not provoked, nor seeks its own to claim. After that ye have suffered a while -1 Peter 5:10
