The Magi by Robert Morgan

From Robert Morgan
If, as I believe, the Wise Men of Luke 2 were Babylonian disciples of the prophet Daniel, did they ascertain the timing of Messiah’s birth by studying Daniel 9? I believe it’s possible.

The last part of Daniel 9 is one of the most important and pivotal passages in all the Bible regarding the Great Tribulation and the return of Christ. It’s the famous passage about the seventy weeks, or the seventy periods of seven. Daniel9:25 says:

Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One (literally, the Messiah), the ruler, comes, there will be seven “sevens” and sixty-two “sevens.” It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. After the sixty-two “sevens,” the Anointed One (literally, the Messiah) will be put to death….

When Daniel received this prophecy, his city of Jerusalem lay in ruins. It was rubble. It has been destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BC. But Daniel was told that a decree would shortly be issued to rebuild Jerusalem, and that decree would start a sequence of events. The clock would start ticking. There would be seven periods of seven years, followed by sixty-two periods of seven years. So here’s a little chart.

7 x 7 years = 49 years

62 x 7 years = 434 years

434 + 49 = 483 years

So Daniel predicted that one of the Gentile rulers would issue a decree for the rebuilding of Jerusalem, and 483 years later the Anointed One, the Messiah, would come into the city and be put to death.

There are various ways of calculating this, but here’s the simple version: The order to rebuild Jerusalem was issued by King Artaxerxes in the book of Nehemiah. And 483 years later, Jesus Christ was crucified in Jerusalem. Hundreds of years in advance, the book of Daniel predicted that the city of Jerusalem would be rebuilt, that the Messiah would enter it, that He would be put to death, and that it would happen 483 years after the decree to rebuild the city.

If the Magi were the spiritual descendants of Daniel, they might have had a powerful clue as to the general time of Messiah’s birth, which would have heightened their interest in the Star of Bethlehem.

People who are truly wise know the Signs of the Times.

The Rest Of The Story Matt 2:12 By Gene Kissinger

The Rest of the Story Redeeming the time brothers podcast by Gene Kissinger and Norman Kissinger, two brothers who spent their lives in ministry and raising large families. Our desire is to provide a digital place for those who long belong. As always, we want to leave a nightlight on for that nightlight is in Matthew chapter two and verse 12.

'And being warned of God and a dream that they should not return to her that departed into their own country another way."

This is the wise men after having presented their treasures to the baby Jesus, they go back to their own country after having been warned off from going back and talking to King Harold by God.  Let me explain this to you about the rest of the story.

One of the most famous voices on radio Paul Harvey began his broadcast career when he was just a teenager living in Oklahoma. His personal style made him a fixture on radio stations across the nation. One of his best known features was a series of broadcasts called the rest of the story, which ran for more than 30 years, Harvey would tell part of a well known story without revealing all the details, then he would fill in the background information that explained what people knew and reveal whose story it was. Now, you know the rest of the story, he would conclude.

I think sometimes when we look at the Christmas story, we're missing the rest of the story. You see a wicked king like Herod, who's trying to manipulate the wise men and the scribes and the Pharisees to gather information so that he can stop Jesus from even really being born and growing up. And God circumvents that in a supernatural way. All of his machinations turn to nothing, because he gives a revelatory dream to those wise men. And they go home another way they don't go back to Herod.  Take Caesar, who in Luke two is sending out a decree to tax the world. And that taxing literally ends up fulfilling Bible prophecy. So that Jesus is born in Bethlehem in answer to a prophetic word of God in the Old Testament, so Caesar and Herod are used by God to accomplish the Christmas story. It's the rest of the story. And whether it's the shepherds that are just out watching their sheep at night, or it's the common people that are sort of wandering ariund hearing these amazing stories. They're all part of God's supernatural agenda. They don't know what's going on. But God knows exactly what's going on. God can work through the woof and weave of the fabric of our life and accomplish His sovereign purpose. Even when politicians are crooked, even when we don't understand and acknowledge what's going on. Even when it seems like everything is dark, God is about to shine a bright light in the midst of it. And that's the rest of the story. God caused a light to shine in a region of darkness. And that's what Christmas is all about. And it's not just the star that shines, it's the light of the gospel, shining into our dark sin cursed world. And Jesus brings the victory and the rest of the story.

We know the story about the shopping, the parties, the back ordered gifts sitting in a container ship off of the California coast. But do you know the rest of the story?  The real story? You can still have Christmas.  Gather with family and friends and dig into the “Rest of the Story” I read it every year to my kids before they touch a present.  You will find it in Luke 2:1-20 and Matt 2:1-12.  May you have a refreshing Christmas as you dig into the rest of the story.  I close with a

Refresh of the song white Christmas by Russel Kelfer

I'm praying for a white Christmas

(Not like the ones we've always known)

But a time of reflecting,

When hearts are connecting,

With why that baby boy was born...

I'm praying for a white Christmas

Won't you join in praying, too

That God's great story

Will bring Him glory

As in men's hearts He's born anew

Russel Kelfer

Dear Lord God, I thank you for these dear ones. I pray that you bless them. Allow them to know that you love them and care for them and let them know that no matter what machinations Satan may be bringing against them, no matter what treacheries have taken place in the broader culture, we know that we can turn to you and trust in you because you're a God who can snatch a victory out of a place of defeat. You can bring light in darkness, victory out of defeat. Thank you for being who you are watching over us. God draws close to you. In Jesus most holy, precious and powerful name, amen. Hey, God bless you. I love you but Jesus loves you so much more. Have a great night.

Finding Your Song Again In The New Year by Gene Kissinger

Chuck Swindoll shared a newspaper story about a woman who had a rather traumatic experience. She was using a vacuum cleaner hose to clean some tight spots in her kitchen. It worked so well she thought she’d stick the hose in the bottom of her bird cage. It worked great—that is until her phone rang! The brief distraction caused her to flinch, she heard a thump and a screech and suddenly “Chirpy” (her beloved pet canary) had vanished.

The woman instantly shut off the vacuum, called his name and stuck her fingers down the hose. When that didn’t work, she opened the tank of her vacuum, sifted through the debris and found her dirty birdy alive but looking a little shook up. When the reporter asked the woman how Chirpy was feeling now, she replied “He’s fine physically, but come to think of it, he doesn’t sing much anymore.”

After 2021,  most of us can relate to Chirpy. We’re fine physically, but as we think about last year and look ahead to the new year, we don’t feel much like singing!

I like to use the last few weeks of each year to review my life.  Socrates said "the unexamined life isn't worth living."
It is so easy to pick up bad habits like...

catastrophic thinking where you assume the worst in every situation.

Complaining about everything and everyone.

Jealousies that divide our relationships.

Anxiety, we find ourselves always stressed out like poor little chirpy.

As you identify the big troublemaker attitudes and actions in your life, partner with a friend and agree to hold each other accountable in a concerted effort to improve these areas.  When you do it will give you your song back.  It will take time, one swallow's song won't make it spring but it is a sign of positive change ahead, one day won't make a life but string enough good days together and you have a great life.

After Reflecting I like to focus on resting as much as possible.  Get some rest over this break. Say no to a few things so you can get some true downtime to recharge your batteries.  That will go a long way to getting your song back.

Along with Reflection and Rest, a third item for your agenda as you head into the new year is Risk. One song stealer for humans is drudgery without a dream. Humans can toil for an entire lifetime enthusiastically if they have an overarching adventure they are a part of.  Is there something on your bucket list you need to move toward this next year? Risk setting out to accomplish some of your dreams.  Become a world changer, you may not change the whole world but you can change the world of the people who you interact with on a daily basis.

I leave you with this parable.

"Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions.

Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching.  As the boy walked, he paused every so often and as he grew closer, the man could see that he was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea.  The boy came closer still and the man called out, “Good morning!  May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”

The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

One Word by Gene Kissinger

Robert Louis Stevenson was one of the premier authors of his day, he had mega hits that made him a very wealthy writer, he wrote Treasure Island and kidnapped, he also had plays like The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and so many others that were massively successful. It was reported in a paper that he was worth one British pound per word. One up and coming author who was a bit jealous of the reviews and accolades that Mr. Stevenson was getting, ended up sending him a letter saying in which he put a pound note and said, It's reported that you get one pound per word, here's my pound, where's my word? , Mr. Stevenson sent back a reply with only one word on the page "thanks"! I know I've probably told you that before, but I want you to remember that even though Thanksgiving is over, Thanksgiving should still flow from our lips. If you had to buy each word that came out of your mouth, if it cost you, if it cost you $100 per word, you'd be wise to make them thankful words. If you want to change your life. One of the best ways to change it is at the end of each day, write down three things that you're thankful for that happened that day, because chances are many things happen that day, some good, some bad, but if you can focus on the things you're thankful for, it will elevate your mood and your spirit, you'll begin to find life getting a little better and a little brighter. And if you want to add to that, there's another life hack that you can try. Write down after those three things that you're thankful for one thing you're looking forward to the next day. That's a kind of Thanksgiving but it's also a sense of anticipation and excitement and you'll begin to find your mental state transforming your emotions being innervated by this simple concept. So if you had to pay one pound per word, make that word thanks,

Thanksgiving Prayer by Gene Kissinger

Contentment. "godliness with contentment is great gain was how Paul put it over 2000 years ago but this timeless truth is still a revolutionary reality  right now. Contentment doesn't mean that we don't want to better ourselves or out lot rather it is the realization that mere gain will not necessarily mean growth in our level of happiness. So if I can find joy in this moment, even if it is labeled a lack time in my life then I will also be happy if I am granted more. But if I am unhappy in my current situation I will most likely be unhappy even if granted "more".

Dear Father above we are so prone to grumble and quick to complain. Please forgive us and redirect our lips and lives to thanks and praise especially on this day.  Today as a nation we collectively gather to remember your goodness to us as a nation and in our lives. This great nation was founded to worship freely and you have blessed us beyond measure. We live in warm houses and have access to transportation.

We want to pause our thanks to petition you to move in our national situation.  We ask for Jobs for the unemployed and housing for those who are homeless as well as healing for those who are profoundly sick from this virus and a host of other maladies. Guide out leaders to bring our nation back from the brink. Please awaken us to our need of you as individuals and as a nation.

Thanks for even the hard things in our lives because they force us to grow. Be in a special way with those not able to gather around the family table as they are defending us or keeping us safe and secure, like the military, and first responders. Be with family that have lost loved ones this year we know these holidays can be hard on them, give a peace that passes understanding.  Help us all draw close to each other as we be never know how long we are loaned our loved ones. Most of all draw us all close to you we need you so much more than the stuff we will be buying during this next month. Help us find the truth godliness with contentment is great gain.
We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus
Amen.

Points To Ponder

"Judge me, O Lord; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the Lord; therefore I shall not slide. Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth."

Ps 26:1‭-‬3 KJV

He's talking about character Chuck Swindoll has an amazing quote about character in his book, hope again, let me read it to you.

"Nothing speaks louder or more powerfully than a life of integrity. Absolutely nothing stands the test like solid character. You can handle the blast like a steer in a blizzard. The ice may form on your horns but you keep standing against the wind and the howling raging storms because Christ is at work in your spirit. Character will always win the day as Horace Greeley wrote, fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, riches take wings, and only character endures. There's no more eloquent effective defense than a life lived continually and consistently in integrity. It possesses an invincible power to silence your slanderers integrity is something that we have to build in our lives. And we build it  moment by moment, keeping our word if we make a promise to do something, we do it, if we set out to develop habits and character traits, we develop them. And so it's something built block by block moment by moment in our lives. And it's a sense of consistency.

Your reputation is what people think you are, your character is what you really are. And so as Christians, especially these last days, our task is to spend the bulk of our time building our character, building who we are before the audience of one, and that's God. And as we build well, then we have a life of integrity so that our slanderers can't say anything about us. Daniel was one such man, and we only aspire to be like him, nothing bad could be found in him. Joseph was another man that had almost nothing negative said about him. But boy, most of us can have negative stuff said about us. I know I can. And so let's work towards integrity. Let's make the trajectory of our life towards character and towards integrity and learn to develop that I know that's my goal. My mission for my life is to get there. Let's pray.

Dear God, I thank you for these dear ones under the sound of my voice and I pray you would help all of us to do better in this area of integrity and help us to be like a steer in the storm. Help us God to brace ourselves against the storms that come that lead who we are in Christ to stand the test of time. Thank you for your grace to us and your mercy, that changes and transforms us. Let us walk in that integrity that you've granted to us in Jesus name. Amen.

God bless you. I love you but Jesus, love you so much more.

There were these little people called the Trids, and they lived up at the top of a mountain in South America. One day a Rabbi went to help out the Trids.

Once he got there, a giant came out of his cave and started kicking the Trids around. The Rabbi had hid once the giant appeared, but when it went back into its cave, the Rabbi came back out and asked some of the Trids why the giant had not come after him.

One of the Trids said, "Silly Rabbi, Kicks are for Trids!!"

Spurgeon

Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.”

John 4:48

A craving after marvels was a symptom of the sickly state of men’s minds in our Lord’s day; they refused solid nourishment, and pined after mere wonder. The gospel which they so greatly needed they would not have; the miracles which Jesus did not always choose to give they eagerly demanded. Many nowadays must see signs and wonders, or they will not believe. Some have said in their heart, “I must feel deep horror of soul, or I never will believe in Jesus.” But what if you never should feel it, as probably you never may? Will you go to hell out of spite against God, because he will not treat you like another? One has said to himself, “If I had a dream, or if I could feel a sudden shock of I know not what, then I would believe.” Thus you undeserving mortals dream that my Lord is to be dictated to by you! You are beggars at his gate, asking for mercy, and you must needs draw up rules and regulations as to how he shall give that mercy. Think you that he will submit to this? My Master is of a generous spirit, but he has a right royal heart, he spurns all dictation, and maintains his sovereignty of action. Why, dear reader, if such be your case, do you crave for signs and wonders? Is not the gospel its own sign and wonder? Is not this a miracle of miracles, that “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him might not perish”? Surely that precious word, “Whosoever will, let him come and take the water of life freely” and that solemn promise, “Him that cometh unto me, I will in no wise cast out,” are better than signs and wonders! A truthful Saviour ought to be believed. He is truth itself. Why will you ask proof of the veracity of One who cannot lie? The devils themselves declared him to be the Son of God; will you mistrust him?

The Great Stone Face Prov 27:19 #NewMorningGlory

Points To Ponder.

The Great Stone Face Redeeming the time brothers podcast by Gene Kissinger Proverbs chapter 27 And verse 19. It says “as in water face answer to face. So the heart of man to man,” Paul Chapelle in writing about this passage retells Nathaniel Hawthorne’s, the Great Stone Face. It's a short story about an unusual rock formation in New England, that looks exactly like a man's face and local legend had it that there would come a man who would be born who would look like that stone face, who would be one of the greatest of men that ever lived. One young man named Ernest, who grew up at the foot of the mountain, was continually looking for that great man to come. And a series of people come by, a great writer, a politician, a general and so on. Yet none of them are that great man, none of them look like that Great Stone Face towards the end of his life an older, wiser Ernest becomes a preacher and at sunset he is invited to preach a sermon outdoors, to the people of the community. While he's preaching, a look of love comes over his face and a poet in the crowd shouted out to look at his face and look at the face on the mountain. They look the same. Earnest didn't believe it, but the others believed that he was that great man. The thrust of the story is we become like what we focus on. When we focus on something or someone long enough, we end up becoming like them, we need to be very careful who we pay attention to. Our society is very bad about putting forward very bad people as role models, and they're lifted up, and even called idols. The problem is your idol will become something that shapes you, you and I need to find good godly mentors to help shape our life. We need to reflect on the great lives of past men and women who have lived godly lives so that we can emulate those character traits within our lives. We need to learn the lesson of the Great Stone Face and become like what we focus on, let's focus on God. Let's focus on godly character in men and women so that we can emulate those traits in our own lives. Let's pray. Dear Lord, God, I thank You that You have given us men and women who model what it's like to live out their faith in adverse times, whether it's a teenage Joseph who is standing against temptation, or an elderly Daniel, who is praying even though it means he'll be cast into a lion's den, Lord, or if it's Peter who's willing to get out and risk his life to walk on the water, or Paul who's willing to preach when it means he might be stoned to death, God, whatever the case, help us to learn the life lessons of these godly men and women who have fleshed out what the faith looks like in their biographies. Allow us God to find and follow that in Jesus' name. Amen. God bless you. I love you, but Jesus loves you so much more.

WALKING IN THE SPIRIT F.B Meyer "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh."-- Gal 5:16. WHEN WE walk in the spirit we shall be led by Him (Gal 5:18+, Ro 8:14+). In the early stages of life we are apt to be headstrong and impulsive, as Moses when he felled the Egyptian. But as we grow in Christian experience (2 Peter 3:18), we wait for the leadings of the Spirit, moving us by His suggestion, impressing on us His will, working within us (Php 2:13+) what afterwards we work out in character and deed (Php 2:12+, Php 2:14+). We do not go in front, but follow behind. We are led by the Spirit. The man or woman who walks in the Spirit has no desire to fulfill the lust of the flesh (Ed: Not exactly true! The desire is still there. The fulfilling of the desire is not.). The desire for the gratification of natural appetite will be latent in the soul, and may flash through the thoughts, but he does not fulfill it. The desire cannot be prevented (Gal 5:17+), but its fulfillment can certainly be withheld. When we walk in the Spirit He produces in us the fruit of a holy character (Gal 5:22-23). The contrast between the works of the fleshly--i.e., the selfish life (Gal 5:19-21).--and the fruit of the Spirit, which is the (super) natural product of His influence, is very marked. In works there is effort, the clatter of machinery, the deafening noise of the factory. But fruit is found in the calm, still, regular process of Nature, which is ever producing in her secret laboratory the kindly fruits of the earth. How quiet it all is! There is no voice nor language. It is almost impossible to realize what is being effected by a long summer day of sunshine. The growing of autumn arrives with noiseless footsteps. So it is with the soul that daily walks in the Spirit. There are probably no startling experiences, no marked transitions, nothing special to record in the diary, but every year those who live in close proximity witness a ripening wealth of fruit in the manifestation of love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control. PRAYER Gracious Lord! May Thy Holy Spirit keep me ever walking in the light of Thy countenance for the glory of Thy Son. May He fill my heart with the sense of Thy nearness and loving fellowship with Jesus. Order my steps in Thy way, and walk with me, that I may do the thing that pleases Thee. In Jesus' Name. AMEN.

Supply and Super-Abundance

#NewMorningGlory

Surplus and Super Abundance Redeeming the time Brothers

by Gene Kissinger.

Romans chapter five, the last two verses, verse 20, and 21. Moreover, the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more about that as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might Grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ, our Lord.

I Want to talk to you about supply and super abundance.  Right now there's a supply chain problem in the United States of America, off of the coast of California, there are hundreds of cargo container ships that are stacked up and they're not being received so they can't get in and get unloaded.  There's a problem getting them across the country, there's a shortage of truck drivers and it's hard to get stuff delivered to our stores and homes. There's a big fret over whether we're going to have enough stuff for Christmas, I got news for you. If Christmas is about stuff, you probably don't understand the real meaning of Christmas. Let's leave that to the side for now and talk about another supply problem.  It's a supply problem of a different sort.   There is a surplus of sin in our lives. We have too much sin as individuals, as groups, even as nations.  There's a massive amount of culpability to go around, and the guilt is on all of us, there's none of us that have any room to point fingers at anybody else. We're all a dressed up mess, we all desperately need help, because of the sin problem.

 The Bible says…

all have sinned and come short of the glory of God….

There is none righteous, no not one….

All of our feet are swift to shed blood….

Our mouths are an open sepulchre…

Our heart is full of lust and adultery. Our emotions run to the hot end of anger and jealousy. Our mouths speak lies and wicked things. We are all in desperate need of help with this sin problem. It's a surplus of sin too much to go around, and trouble is, even a little bit, even one sin can send us to hell. So how do we deal with this over abundance of sin? Well, the verse says this, it says…." where sin abounded, grace did much more abound." That phrase "Much More Abound" means Grace super abounded. It was super abundant. There was more of it than you could possibly imagine. So while there was a surplus of sin, there was a super abundance of grace, so that greater than my sin need is God's sin cure, so that before there was ever a sin, there was a savior, because the Lamb of God was slain before the foundation of the world. Before I ever had a mess in my life, God manifested mercy to me, by sending His Son to live a sinless life and then die vicariously for me on the cross before I ever experienced the pangs of guilt. The presence of grace was available to me by the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. And so I want to encourage you if you feel trapped in your sin, know that there's a super abundance of grace to not only forgive that sin, but to help you move into victory over that sin. Because God has a process and that process is he forgives us of sin, then he breaks the power of sin in our life and then ultimately in heaven, He removes us from the very presence of sin where we'll live with him forevermore. And with him there is fullness of joy.

Let's pray. Dear Lord God, I thank you for this night and I thank you for these dear ones, I pray that You would bless them. And I pray to you to encourage those that might be struggling with a sin issue in their life. Let them know that you have enough grace to forgive them. You've got enough grace to help them break the bondage of sin. You've got enough grace, to get them to heaven. What a good God you are. And I pray to you to encourage them in their sanctification.  Help them God to grow everyday moment by moment. Help them to stay connected to you through the word and help them to communicate with you through prayer. Help them to dig into a good vibrant local body of believers that they might be strengthened and encouraged by others within the body of Christ and that they might strengthen. Encourage others as well. Grant us a sense of your peace and presence tonight. Bless our time in Jesus name, amen. Hey, God bless you. I love you but Jesus loves you so much more.

The doorbell

A pastor is walking down the street one day when he notices a small boy trying to use the doorbell on a house across the street. However, the boy is very small and the doorbell is too high for him to reach.

After watching the boys efforts for some time the pastor walks across the street up to the little fellow and rings the doorbell.

Kneeling down next to the child, the pastor smiles and asks, "And now what, my little man?" To which the boy replies, "Run!"

The Faith to Persevere

By Oswald Chambers

Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Rev 3:10 KJV

Perseverance means more than endurance— more than simply holding on until the end. A saint’s life is in the hands of God like a bow and arrow in the hands of an archer. God is aiming at something the saint cannot see, but our Lord continues to stretch and strain, and every once in a while the saint says, “I can’t take any more.” Yet God pays no attention; He goes on stretching until His purpose is in sight, and then He lets the arrow fly. Entrust yourself to God’s hands. Is there something in your life for which you need perseverance right now? Maintain your intimate relationship with Jesus Christ through the perseverance of faith. Proclaim as Job did, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him” (Job 13:15).

Faith is not some weak and pitiful emotion, but is strong and vigorous confidence built on the fact that God is holy love. And even though you cannot see Him right now and cannot understand what He is doing, you know Him. Disaster occurs in your life when you lack the mental composure that comes from establishing yourself on the eternal truth that God is holy love. Faith is the supreme effort of your life— throwing yourself with abandon and total confidence upon God.

God ventured His all in Jesus Christ to save us, and now He wants us to venture our all with total abandoned confidence in Him. There are areas in our lives where that faith has not worked in us as yet— places still untouched by the life of God. There were none of those places in Jesus Christ’s life, and there are to be none in ours. Jesus prayed, “This is eternal life, that they may know You…” (John 17:3). The real meaning of eternal life is a life that can face anything it has to face without wavering. If we will take this view, life will become one great romance— a glorious opportunity of seeing wonderful things all the time. God is disciplining us to get us into this central place of power.

The imagery of this verse is taken from the ancient Near East, in Egypt and Assyria during that time kings, and potentates, had elaborate thrones, high above the people, they had long flowing robes. Behind those robes was a piece of cloth that was called a train, if you watch any of the Royals, and you'll sometimes see them walking with a piece of cloth that's dragging behind the robe, and that's called a train.  The bigger the train, the more victorious you are when the Assyrian kings and the Egyptian kings would take over another kingdom and they defeated another king, they would take  the defeated kings robes, cut the train off the robe and have it sewn onto their own. So the more victory that they had, the longer their train was, and here Isaiah is using that imagery about a high throne that is as high as the heavens and about a train that  fills up the temple. The idea is, is that God is an ever victorious, ever conquering, never defeated God!  He's the Almighty God, all powerful, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent. He's the Omni everything God and that's what Isaiah points out so powerfully.  Another more beautiful thing is, that you as a born again, believer, are picturing the temple.

According to Acts chapter seven and other passages The literal temple in the Old Testament, becomes you in the New Testament.  In Corinthians where Paul says, You are the temple of God, and you can live in victory over sin. So rather than sin filling you, know what His train of victory fills you. You can move and live in victory because of who God is. Not because of who you are.  Not because of how strong you are, you can move into victory because of how victorious God is, how great God is, how good God is. So I just want to encourage you to move out of the realm of defeated thinking into the realm of Victorious thinking and living because of the victory train, the train of victory that is in Old Testament book of Isaiah chapter six and verse one is in you because the Holy Spirit of God in dwells you and the train of victory runs right through the middle of your life.

Let's pray Dear Lord, God, I thank you for this night. I thank you for my dear friends, I pray that You would bless them. Help them to rest tonight. Let them rest in the victory that they have in you, let them rest in the knowledge that you have already conquered death, you've defeated the devil. You know we're just waiting for the time to come into this mess down here and bring us home to heaven to be with you. Watch out over us. Grant us a good night in Jesus name, amen. Hey, God bless you. I love you but Jesus loves you so much more

Laugh Line.

Community picnic

A church had a picnic and invited the entire community to come. The Pastor placed a basket full of apples on one end of a table with a sign saying, "Take only one apple please - Remember that God is watching."

On the other end of the table was a plate of cookies where one of the children had placed a sign saying, "Take all the cookies you want -- God is watching the apples."

3 conditions of discipleship

Read and think through these wonderful thoughts by

F.B Meyer

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A CHRISTIAN Luke 14:33 “So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.” THREE TIMES over in this chapter, our Lord says these solemn words: “he cannot be My disciple.” There are three conditions of discipleship. First, we must be prepared to put first things first; second,

we must be willing to suffer daily crucifixion; third, we must be detached from all things, because attached to Christ. The conditions seem severe,

but they must be fulfilled, if we would enter Christ’s School.

Disciple stands for learner. Our Lord is prepared to teach us the mysteries of the Kingdom of God; but it is useless to enter His class unless we have resolved to do as He says. Put first things first. When our Lord uses the word hate, He clearly means that the love we are to have for Him is to be so much greater, that comparatively our natural affection will be as if it were hate. No one could have loved His Mother more than our Lord did. In His dying agony His special thought and care was for her, but on three different occasions He put her aside. We are sometimes called to put aside those who are nearest and dearest, if their demands conflict with the claims of Christ.

The daily cross. In each of us there is the self-principle, and for each of us there is a perpetual necessity to deny self. Some talk about bearing the cross in a glib fashion, but its true meaning is shame, suffering, and sorrow, which no one realizes but God, and which perhaps strikes deeper down into the roots of our being as we grow older. There is an opportunity in your life, in respect to some person or circumstance, for an everdeepening appreciation of union with Christ in His death, and for which you must be dally prepared to surrender your own way and will.

Renunciation. It may be necessary to surrender all we have for Christ,

or it may be that He will ask us to hold all as a steward or trustee for Himself and others. No one can lay down the rule for another. The main point to decide is this: “Am I willing to do what Christ wants me to do; to yield my will for Him to mould it, and my life for Him to work through it?” If so, all else will adjust itself.

PRAYER--O Lord, save me in spite of myself. May I be Thine; wholly Thine, and, at all costs, Thine. In humiliation, in poverty, in self abnegation, Thine. Thine in the way Thou knowest to be most fitting, in order that Thou mightest be now and ever mine. AMEN.

Warning Col 1:27-28 by F.B Meyer

#MorningGlory
RTTBROS

F.B Meyers
WATCHING FOR SOULS

"Christ in you, the hope of glory; Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom."-- Col 1:27, 28.

"Watch, and remember, I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears."-- Acts 20:31

THE MINISTRY of warning should be a recognized part of the work of the Church and of each individual member. The foghorn warns the ship from the deadly rocks; the red light warns the train of imminent danger; in the days of the plague people were warned from infected areas: how much more should we, who know the wrath of God which abides on those who refuse Christ, raise our voice in warning. We should do it deliberately, earnestly, patiently, and in reliance upon the Spirit of God to make our words, however much they may be resented, the means of arresting the wicked from the error of his ways, and those who are taking their first steps in forbidden paths from pursuing them (Ezek 33:7, 8, 9).

How wonderful it is that God does not commission angels to carry His warnings and appeals; instead of this, the work that angels might love to do is entrusted to men. It is at our peril that we neglect our opportunities in this direction. If the signalman is placed at a point where many lines of rail cross or diverge, and he sleeps at his post, or neglects his duty, he may be tried for manslaughter; and if we know of people in the immediate circle of our influence who are in danger of ruining their physical, moral, and spiritual well-being, we are bound to raise a warning voice. If we saw, upon the upper reaches of a river, a boat full of people hastening towards the rapids unheeding the danger, surely we might be guilty of being an accessory in their destruction, if we failed to do something to warn them of their peril.

Accompanying our words of warning, there should be the clear reiteration of the Love of God. He does not desire the death of a sinner, but rather that he should turn from his wickedness and live. It is not enough to try and prevent men from taking the wrong path, we must urge and allure them to take the pleasant ways of righteousness and peace. All are included in the love of God. Even sin cannot turn away His love, which is like that described in the parable of the Prodigal Son, or 1Co 13:1-13.

Victory by A.B Simpson

A.B SIMPSON
Victory
There is often apparently but little difference in two distinct lives between the person in constant victory and the one in frequent victory. But that little difference constitutes a world of success or failure. The one is the divine, the other is the human; the one is the everlasting way, the other the transient and the imperfect way. God wants to lead us to the way everlasting and to establish us and make us immovable as He. We little know the seriousness of the slightest infraction of our surrender to God. It is but the first step in the downward progression, and only God knows where it shall end. Let us be not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul (Hebrews 10:39). Our victory today is preparing the way for a greater victory tomorrow; but our small compromise today is opening the door for a more terrible defeat in the days to come. Let us, therefore, whatever we have claimed from our blessed Master commit it to His keeping and take Him to establish us and hold us fast in the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. Lead me in the way everlasting -Psalm 139:24

Victory Over Death Isa 25:8 F.B Meyer

#MorningGlory
RTTBROS
F.B Meyer

VICTORY OVER DEATH

"He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces."-- Isa 25:8.

"O Death, where is thy sting? O Grave, where is thy victory?"-- 1Co 15:55.

"God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."-- Rev 7:17.

IN THIS marvellous chapter, Isaiah sings a Song of Hope, as he sees the return of the Hebrew people from captivity, and the overthrow of their foes. The Apostle Paul takes up this thought in 1 Cor. 15. He shows that death is the penalty of sin, and it is by the demands of the law that sin is stirred to activity. But Christ has satisfied and met the claims of the law, and gives power by which we are enabled to obey it; therefore the strength of sin is broken, and the sting of death is gone.

The Christian need not dread to die. For him there is no uncertainty about the future. There is no fear of what may come after death, for the condemnation of the law has been met and borne. We may apostrophise death in these exultant words. The viper has been deprived of its fangs! the prison-house cannot hold its inmates! Bunyan describes Satan as exhorting Captain Sepulchre to be sure to hold Christ, but the injunction was useless. No bars or bolts, no seal or sentry would suffice.

Notice that we are to "Put on" incorruption and immortality (1Co 15:53-54). It is as though the new body will be put on over the old, and as this takes place, all the elements of the old body will be swallowed up and absorbed. when the Holy Spirit completes his work in our souls, there will be no trace of the old rags left in the shining robes in which we shall be arrayed as we go forth to meet the welcome of our Lord. Death to those who believe in Christ is now only a Home-going; the falling asleep to open the eyes in the City of God; the loosening of the anchor, to float down stream in the full tide. "There shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain."

PRAYER

O God, whensoever Thy ways in nature or in the soul are hard to be understood, then may our quiet confidence, our patient trust, our loving faith in Thee be great, and as children knowing that they are loved, cared for, guarded, kept, may we with a quiet mind at all times put our trust in the unseen God. So may we face life without fear, and death without fainting. AMEN.

Beatitudes by A.B Simpson

#MorningGlory

A.B SIMPSON
Beatitudes

You little know the rest that comes from the yielded will, the surrendered choice, the meek and lowly heart that lets the world go by and knows that it shall inherit the earth which is has refused. You little know the relish that it gives to the blessing to hunger and thirst after righteousness and to be filled with a satisfaction that worldly delight cannot afford. You little know what it is to then rise to the higher blessedness of the merciful, the forgiving, the hearts that have learned that it is "more blessed to give than to receive," and the lives that find that "letting go is twice possessing" and blessing other is to be doubly blessed. There is yet one jewel brighter than all the rest in this crown of beatitudes. It is the teardrop crystallized into the diamond, the blood drop transfigured into the ruby of heaven's eternal crown. It is the joy of suffering with Jesus and then forgetting all the sorrow in the overflowing joy until with the heavenly Pascal we know not which to say first and so we say them both together, "Tears upon tears, joy upon joy." Happy are ye if ye do them -John 13:17

Room 2 Kings 4:2 by A.B Simpson

Room

Elisha asked the widow, "What hast thou in the house?" And she said, "Nothing but a pot of oil." But that pot of oil was adequate all her needs, had she only known how to use it. In truth it represented the Holy Spirit, and the great lesson of the incident is that the Holy Spirit is adequate for all our needs, if we only know how to use Him. All the widow needed was to get sufficient vessels to hold the overflow, and then pour out until all were filled. Even so the Holy Spirit is limited only by our capacity to receive Him, and when God wants us to have a larger fullness, he has to make room for it by creating greater needs. God sends us new vessels to be filled with His Holy Spirit in the needs that come to us and the trials that meet us. These are God's opportunities to give us more of Himself. As we meet them He comes to us in larger fullness for each new necessity. Lord, help me to see Thee in all my trying situations and to make them vessels to hold more of Thy grace. Thine handmaid hath riot anything in the house, save a pot of oil -2 Kings 4:2

Delivered By. F.B Meyer

GOD OUR DEFENCE AND DELIVERER

"As birds flying, so will the Lord of Hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also He will deliver it, and passing over He will preserve it."-- Isa 31:5.

WE HAVE in this chapter three beautiful synonyms for God. He is Wise (Isa 31:1-3). The politicians of that time were boasting of their wisdom-in having secured the Egyptian alliance, but their cleverness and strategy were not destined to be of any help to them. Why did they not consult the Holy One of Israel, and seek the help of the Almighty? Was His wisdom only in heavenly and religious matters? Had He not the power to infuse men like Isaiah with a wisdom for earthly and human politics? Surely the boast of wisdom was mockery in the leaders of the people, at that dread hour of Jerusalem's history, when they turned away from the Light and Glory of the Shekinah to seek human counsellers and worldly stratagems. Not only in religious matters, but in the daily ordering of our human fife, "if any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting!" (Jam 1:5.)

He is as a Lion (Isa 31:4). The lion is more than a match for the groups of shepherds who endeavour to stand against him with their crooks. He is not afraid of their shouting and views them with contempt. Does not this mean that the mighty presence and power of God would shelter the soul that trusts Him? All the nations might assail the city in vain whilst the Lion of the Tribe of Judah stood as sentry! If you are fearful of heart, and dread the attack of man, flee to God for refuge and defence (Psa 46:1).

He is as a mother-bird and her nest (Isa 31:5). How wonderful these words are! How near God comes to each one of us! We are reminded of our Saviour who longed to gather Jerusalem under His wings! Amid all the fret and worry and anxiety of your life, dare to believe in a Love that will not let you go!

PRAYER

O God our Father, how can we thank Thee for Thy Holy Word, and the many methods by which Thou wouldst gain our confidence and love! Give us grace to return unto our rest beneath the shadow of Thy wings! AMEN.

Not Lost In The Flock In 10:14 by J.H Jowett

J.H JOWETT

NOT LOST IN THE FLOCK

“I know My sheep, and am known of mine.”

—John 10:7-16.

THERE is mutual recognition, and in that recognition there is confidence and peace.

“I know my sheep.” He knows us one by one. My knowledge of the individual wanes in proportion as the multitude is increased. The teacher with the smaller class has the deepest intimacy with her scholars. The individual is lost in the crowd. But not so with our Lord. There are no “masses” in His sight. However big the crowd, even though it be “a multitude which no man can number,” we still remain individuals, known to the Lord by name, and face, and personal need. If thou art away from the fold, thy face is missed, and the Shepherd is away in search of thee!

“And I am known of mine.” And the knowledge deepens with every day’s experience. There are false shepherds who can subtly mimic the Good Shepherd, and in my early discipleship I am liable to be deceived. The devil himself can array himself like a shepherd, and imitate the very tones of the Lord. Therefore must I watch, and ever watch. But here is my hope and inspiration. Every day I spend with my Good Shepherd sharpens my discernments, enables me to see through the outer show of things, and to discriminate between the false and the true.

The Battle is The Lord's

The thing is to count the battle God's. The battle is not yours but God's. We shall not need to fight in this battle. As long as we count our dangers and responsibilities, we shall be distracted with fear. But when we realize God is bound to take care of us as His property and His representatives, we shall feel infinite relief and security. If I send my employee on a long journey, I am responsible for his expenses and protection; if God sends me anywhere, He is responsible. If we belong to God and put our life, our family, and our all in His hands, we may know He will take care of us. If our body belongs to God, it is His interest to keep us well, just as much as it is for the interest of the shepherd to have his sheep well fed, well cared for and a credit to him. Thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14). Stand up, stand up for Jesus, Stand in His strength alone; The arm of flesh will fail you, Ye dare not trust your own. The battle is not yours -2 Chronicles 20:15

The Psalm of Praise Ps 107:15 By J.H Jowett

#MorningGlory
RTTBROS

J.H Jowett
THE PSALM OF PRAISE

Psalm 107:1-15.

THE miracle of deliverance must be followed by the psalm of praise. There are multitudes who cry, “God be merciful!” who never cry, “God be praised!” “There were none that returned to give thanks save this Samaritan.” Ten cleansed, and only one grateful! “Oh, that men would praise the Lord for His goodness!” Many a blessing becomes stale because it is not renewed by thanksgiving. Graces that are received ungratefully droop like flowers deprived of rain. Yes, gratitude gives sustenance to blessings already received. Therefore “in everything give thanks.”

But emancipated lives are not only to break into praise before God, they must exercise in confession before men. “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!” Unconfessed blessings become like the Dead Sea; refused an outlet they lose their freshness and vitality. I am found by the Lord in order that I, too, may be a seeker. I receive His peace in order that I may be a peacemaker. I am comforted in order that I “may comfort others with the comfort wherewith I am comforted of God.” Have you ever received a blessing; “pass it on!” Tell the story of thy deliverance to the enslaved, that he, too, may find “the iron gate” swing open, and so attain his freedom.

The Holy Spirit does not come to give us extraordinary manifestations but to give us life and light. The nearer we come to Him the more simple will His illumination and leading be. He comes to reveal Christ, to give, and then to illumine the Holy Scriptures and to make divine realities vivid and clear to our spiritual apprehension. He comes as a Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, to enlighten the eyes of our understanding, that we may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power (Ephesians 1:18-19). God is In HIS HEAVEN Ps. 19:1 By F.B Meyer

#MorningGlory
RTTBROS

F.B Meyer
GOD'S IN HIS HEAVEN

"The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth His handiwork."-- Psa 19:1.

GOD IN the Heavens (Psa 19:1-6). The Psalmist knew little or nothing of modern astronomical discovery, but his words can still be applied to the glorious march of suns and mighty planets toward their distant goal. Voices still speak to us from the vault of heaven, though no sound breaks on our listening ears.

The sun was not a god, but a creation. He can only pursue his destined path and retire at night to the tent of darkness. This is evidently metaphor, but is not the orb of natural day a true emblem of the Sun of Righteousness, the Bridegroom of human souls, who once tabernacled amongst men? Let us warm our cold hearts in the heat of His life-giving rays.

God in the Scriptures (Psa 19:7-11). In the first division of the Psalm He is known as EL; here as Jehovah. Nature may reveal His strength, but the Bible tells of His redeeming love. Notice that each sentence contains a name for Scripture, an attribute, and one of its effects. Perfect--no flaw; sure, reliable; right, a straight road; pure, as sunlight; clean, making impurity loathsome; true, as a reflection of God; righteous, revealing His demands, and the way in which we may become righteous. Ponder its effects! The Old Testament, as David knew it, was only a fragment of Divine revelation. What would he have said of our Bible! Alas, for those who instead of enjoying its fragrance are content with merely dissecting it.

God in the heart (Psa 19:12-14). He reads its innermost secrets, and His Blessed Spirit longs to cleanse us from secret faults, and to hold us back from presumptuous sin.

PRAYER

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer. AMEN.

The Right Tack

#MorningGlory
RTTBROS
Against The Wind
By Norman Kissinger
We four brothers grew up on the Southern Oregon coast. I still ultimately consider that home. I enjoy visiting the ocean when I get a chance because it's such a big part of my past. I never really got to be on the ocean when I was younger; a couple of times I believe. But I've always been interested in sailing. My favorite book when I was a kid was about a 16 year old who sailed around the world on a boat called the "Dove" back in the early 1960s. He was featured in National Geographic at the time. So I did a lot of study about sailing even though I never pursued it. My understanding of sailing is that it's possible to almost sail directly into the wind by doing something called tacking. Basically you go across the wind slightly in the direction that you want to go by setting your sails a certain way and zigzag back and forth and by doing so you can actually sail almost directly into the wind. Obviously this slows down your travel but it's still possible to go in almost any direction regardless of the wind. As I stated I can't claim to be an expert about sailing. But I do think that tacking is an important spiritual concept. Every Christian has been frustrated by their limitations of circumstes and wish that things were different. Or they wish that certain trials were not harassing them. How many times do we go to God crying for him to change the situation and frustratingly He simply does not. But I find that often God is using the wind that seems to be coming from the same direction that I'm supposed to go in order to change me. It's not the direction of the wind it is the set of my sails. God is actually using the circumstances to train me to be effective in moving in whatever direction I need to go regardless of what direction the wind is blowing. I pray for the wind to change when I should be setting my sails to move in the direction God would have me to go. Sometimes in life the wind is full to our back. Sometimes it's off to the side. Sometimes it blows in our face, but regardless it is only important what direction our Captain wants us to go and how efficient we are at setting the sails. A good sailor can sail in any direction and a mature Christian can become what God wants he or she to be regardless of circumstances-or the direction of the wind.

Changed By Dr. Paul Chappell

Changed

by Dr. Paul Chappell

And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.

Acts 9:20-22

The life of John Newton underwent a remarkable transformation. The man who had once been a slave trader became a leading advocate for the abolition of slavery. The man who had been profane and had no time for God became a leading preacher. Newton wrote, “I am not what I might be, I am not what I ought to be, I am not what I wish to be, I am not what I hope to be. But I thank God I am not what I once was, and I can say with the great apostle, 'By the grace of God I am what I am.'”

Some of us, especially those who were saved at a young age, do not have a testimony of such radical outward change as Newton's, but everyone who has trusted Christ as Saviour should be marked by a new purpose in life. Where Saul had once led the persecution of the church, after he met Jesus on the road to Damascus, he became a powerful and effective preacher. Those who heard him in those early days did not understand how that change had come about, but that is what Jesus does.

We are not saved for our own benefit, although we do benefit greatly. We are saved to be part of God's work in this world. We are saved to tell others about the grace we found. We are saved to be different than we were before. The same God who saves us equips and empowers us for effective ministry for Him throughout our lives.

Today's Growth Principle:
God powerfully transforms the lives of everyone who trusts Him for salvation.

Involvement in God's Work
by Dr. Paul Chappell

Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach. Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king's words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.

Nehemiah 2:17-18

Nehemiah was heartbroken when he heard how the city of Jerusalem was defenseless and how the Jewish people who lived there were suffering as a result. So he resolved to do something about it. He got permission from the king to go back and build a wall. Nehemiah understood an important principle: that God's work requires God's people to join hands. Nehemiah worked on the wall, but it was the efforts of the people of Jersualem that brought the task to a successful conclusion. “So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days” (Nehemiah 6:15).

Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning; staying together is progress; working together is success.” God's work is not usually done by individuals working in isolation, but by groups of people joining hands together and laboring together until the task is complete. Every church needs the people of the church—not just the pastor or a few full-time staff workers, but everyone—to be active and involved for the ministry to have the impact it should.

The seventeenth-century Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto is credited with the discovery of the 80/20 rule, commonly called the Pareto Principle. Though it has many applications, one of the best known is that in most projects, 20 percent of the people do 80 percent of the work. That may hold true in many areas of life, but it should never be true of God's church. We should all be active in His work.

Today's Growth Principle:
God has a part in His work for every Christian; be alert to opportunities He may have for you today.

Trouble 2 Cor. 7:5 by A.B Simpson

A.B SIMPSON

Why should God have to lead us through troubles and allow the pressure to be so hard and constant? In the first place, it shows His all-sufficient strength and grace much better than if we were exempt from pressure and trial. We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us (2 Corinthians 4:7). Also, it makes us more conscious of our dependence upon God. God is constantly trying to teach us our dependence and to hold us absolutely in His hand and hanging upon His care. This was the place where Jesus Himself stood and where He wants us to stand, not with a self constituted strength, but with a hand ever leaning upon His, and a trust that dares not take one step alone. Troubles teach us trust. There is no way of learning faith except by trial. It is God's school of faith, and it is far better for us to learn to trust God than to escape trials. The lesson of faith, once learned, is an everlasting acquisition and an eternal fortune made. Without trust even riches will leave us poor. We were troubled on every side -2 Corinthians 7:5

Fret Not Ps. 37:7 by F.B Meyer

FRET NOT

"Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him: Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass."-- Psa 37:7.

IT IS a mistake to be always turning back to recover the past. The law for christian living is not backward, but forward; not for experiences that lie behind, but for doing the will of God, which is always ahead and beckoning us to follow. Leave the things that are behind, and reach forward to those that are before, for on each new height to which we attain, there are the appropriate joys that befit the new experience. Don't fret because life's joys are fled. There are more in front. Look up, press forward, the best is yet to be!

Fret not because your ideals appear to mock you. Every ideal which we cherish is the herald and precursor of a reality which, in a better form than ever we dreamed, shall one day come to our possession. The ancient alchemists spent their lives in the pursuit of the Philosopher's Stone, which they thought would turn every substance it touched to gold. They never discovered it, but they laid the foundations of modern chemistry, which has been more fruitful in its blessing to our race than the famous magic-stone would have been. Who shall say that those old explorers were deceived? Was not God leading them on, by a way that they knew not, to better things than they dreamed?

Fret not because the future seems dark. After all, the troubles we anticipate may never really befall. It is a long lane without a turning, and the dreariest day has some glint of light. In any case, worrying will not help matters; it can alter neither the future nor the past, though it will materially affect our power in dealing with troubles. It will not rob to-morrow of its difficulties, but it will rob your brain of its clear-sightedness, and your heart of its courage. Let us turn to God with faith and prayer, looking out for the one or two patches of blue which are in every sky. And if you cannot discover any where you are, dare to anticipate the time when God shall make all things work together for good to them that love Him.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we have been careful and troubled about many things. Forgive us, and breathe into our hearts a great faith in Thee, that doubts and fears may not be able to break in on our peace. Fence us around to-day as with a wall of fire; let us hear Thy voice saying: Fear not, I am with thee. AMEN.

Yielded By A.B Simpson

A.B SIMPSON

We must recognize the true character of our self-life and its real virulence and vileness. We must consent to its destruction, and we must take it ourselves, as Abraham did Isaac, and lay it at the feet of God in willing sacrifice. This is a seemingly impossible task for the natural heart, but the moment the will is yielded and the choice is made, we are astonished to find that the agony is over and death is accomplished. Usually the crisis in such cases hangs upon a single point. God does not need to strike us in a hundred places to inflict a death wound. There is one point that touches the heart and that is the Point God usually strikes. It will likely be the dearest thing in our lives, the decisive thing in our plans, the citadel of our wills, the center of our hearts. And when we yield there, there is little left to yield anywhere else. But when we refuse to yield at that point, a spirit of evasion and compromise enters into all the rest of our lives. Let us take Him to enable us to will His will in all things in our lives. Now mine eyes seeth thee -Job 42:5

The Worthy Walk Eph 4:1-3 by Dr Paul Chappell

The Worthy Walk
by Dr. Paul Chappell

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Ephesians 4:1-3

God takes us into His family and gives us His name when we are saved. But in return, He expects us to live up to that name. We have a purpose here on Earth. We are not just passing time until we get to Heaven. We have a calling and a purpose and a destiny, and we are called to live up to it, day after day. Horatius Bonar wrote, “If you are Christians, be consistent. Be Christians out and out; Christians every hour, in every part. Beware of halfhearted discipleship, of compromise with evil, of conformity to the world, of trying to serve two masters—to walk in two ways, the narrow and the broad, at once. It will not do. Halfhearted Christianity will only dishonor God, while it makes you miserable.”

The calling of God is not just for people in full-time ministry. It is for every believer. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). God has a work for you to do, and He is calling you to live in such a way that the work will not be hindered. God certainly does not need our help to accomplish His purposes, but He has given us the opportunity to glorify Him through our service. But we only bring Him that glory if our daily lives are characterized by having a right relationship with Him and with others.

We must not allow pride to come between us and God. We must not allow hurt feelings or impatience to come between us and other Christians. Only when both of these relationships are right can we do all that God has set before us to accomplish.

Today's Growth Principle:
Working for God in any role is a high honor, and we should strive to be worthy to do His work.
