JOY
We do not always feel joyful, but we are to count it all joy. The word "reckon" is one of the key words of Scripture. It is the same word used about our death to self (Romans 6: 11). We do not feel dead. We are painfully conscious of something that would gladly return to life. But we are to treat ourselves as dead and neither fear nor obey the old nature. So we are to reckon the thing that comes as a blessing. We are determined to rejoice, to say, my heart is fixed, 0 God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise (Psalm 57:7). This rejoicing by faith will soon become a habit and will bring continually the spirit of gladness and the spontaneous overflow of praise. Then, although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labor of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation (Habakkuk 3:17). Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging 'round? On Jesus' bosom naught but calm is found. Peace, perfect peace, our future all unknown? Jesus we know, and He is on the throne. The Vital Question

Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Matthew 17:4-5

For decades Larry King interviewed some of the most famous people in the world. On both radio and television, he talked to politicians, business leaders, inventors, athletes, and entertainers. King had a gift for asking questions in a way that got people talking, and often they revealed more than they intended. In a special celebrating his fortieth anniversary in the business, King himself was interviewed by Bryant Gumbel. Near the end of their conversation, Gumbel wanted to know what King would ask God if He appeared on King's show. “Do you have a Son?” King replied. Though he was not a Christian, King understood the importance of that question to everything else about life.

The answer to the question is “Yes.” God does have a Son, and His name is Jesus. Jesus was not merely a teacher, an example, a prophet, or a leader. He was Divine. Over and over, the Bible affirms this central truth. God declared it publicly when Jesus was baptized, and He declared it again to Peter, James, and John on the Mount of Transfiguration. There is no uncertainty or ambiguity about the claim of Jesus Christ to be the very Son of God.

This is the central truth that underlies everything about our faith. If Jesus was not the Son of God, He could not purchase our salvation. He could never bear the sins of the world unless He were both human and deity at the same time. And that is what He was. We must grasp the nature and character of Jesus to understand the salvation He freely offers.

Every part of the Christian life flows from the proper understanding of who Jesus really is.

All around us in the world we see reasons to be worried and troubled. Sickness and hatred, disease and difficulty are widespread. Yet these things are not new. They have been part of life ever since the Fall of man. They were present in Jesus' day as well. And the night before He was to go to the cross, Jesus told His disciples not to worry—not because nothing would ever go wrong, but because there was a promised place and a guaranteed future waiting for them. Every person who has trusted Christ as Savior has the hope of Heaven before him.

Dr. Lee Roberson wrote, “Heaven is a promised place. Heaven is an assured place. Heaven is a place beyond the dreams of men. I have preached about Heaven for almost eighty years. The promises of God have never lost their precious appeal. Heaven is eternity. Heaven is real. Heaven is God Himself.” This present world is not all there is. We have a home with God waiting for us that can never be lost or taken away. We have a settled and certain future that is guaranteed for all eternity.

It is no wonder that the world lives with doubt and worry. They have nothing that is truly reliable and dependable. Every human source of comfort and security can be lost. Only the Divine promise of a prepared place offers us an unshakable source of peace. Only the hope of Heaven lets us keep our hearts from being troubled.

Today's Growth Principle:
When our focus is on Heaven rather than the things of this world, we need not live with worry and fear as our constant companions.

FEELING DISCOURAGED, DEPRESSED OR EVEN DESPAIRING? Helen Howarth Lemmel experience the same when she was struck by a disease that caused her to go blind and as a result was abandoned by her husband. Yet amidst her situation she turned to Jesus and wrote over 500 hymns of praise and worship! This beloved hymn came out in 1922. "Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace."

He can calm our fears!

How tenderly God soothes our fears! How sweetly He says in the introductory verse, Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: . . . I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. And yet again, still with tender thoughtfulness, I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee (Isaiah 41:13). He does not say it only once, but He keeps holding our right hand and repeating such promises. The blessed Lord condensed it all into one single message of eternal comfort spoken to the disciples on the Sea of Galilee, It is I, be not afraid. He is the antidote to fear; He is the remedy for trouble; He is the substance and the sum of deliverance. We should, therefore, rise above fear. Let us keep our eyes fastened upon Him; let us abide continually in Him; let us be content with Him. Let us cling closely to Him and cry, Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea (Psalm 46:2). Be not dismayed; for I am thy God -Isaiah 41:10

THE Bible opens with a garden. It closes with a garden. The first is the Paradise that was lost. The last is Paradise regained. And between the two there is a third garden, the garden of Gethsemane. And it is through the unspeakable bitterness and desolation of Gethsemane that we find again the glorious garden through which flows “the river of water of life.” Without Gethsemane no New Jerusalem! Without its mysterious and unfathomable night no blessed sunrise of eternal hope! “We were reconciled to God by the death of His Son.”

We are always in dire peril of regarding our redemption lightly. We hold it cheaply. Privileges easily come to be esteemed as rights. And even grace itself can lose the strength of heavenly favour and can be received and used as our due. “Gethsemane can I forget?” Yes, I can; and in the forgetfulness I lose the sacred awe of my redemption, and I miss the real glory of “Paradise regained.” “Ye are not your own; ye are bought with a price.” That is the remembrance that keeps the spirit lowly, and that fills the heart with love for Him “whose I am,” and whom I ought to serve.

Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

Haggai 1:3-6

An archaeological excavation near Masada, site of the final battle in the Israeli war of rebellion against Rome in AD 72, turned up an ancient papyrus fragment that details the pay of a soldier named Gaius Messius. He served in the legion that besieged the mountain fortress, and for his service he was paid the sum of 50 denarri. However, like most Roman soldiers of the day, he was also responsible for many of his living expenses. When he summed up the deductions from his pay for food, clothing, and equipment, those also totaled 50 denarri—meaning that his net pay was zero. All of his efforts and labors had not produced anything for Gaius Messius to keep.

When we work without regard for the things of God, we will find that whatever money we may earn will not be enough to satisfy our desires or even meet some needs. But when we labor for Him first and foremost, putting His will and His kingdom ahead of our own desires, we have His promise that He will meet our needs. "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). Furthermore, no service for Christ, however great or small, will ever go unnoticed or unrewarded in God's eyes. Jesus said, “For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward” (Mark 9:41). God's rewards are not temporal; they are eternal, and they are meaningful.

Focus on the things of this world will always lead to disappointment and disillusionment. Living for what is eternal leads to joy and peace

It is a happy way of soothing sorrow when we can feel—"HE careth for me." Christian! do not dishonour religion by always wearing a brow of care; come, cast your burden upon your Lord. You are staggering beneath a weight which your Father would not feel. What seems to you a crushing burden, would be to Him but as the small dust of the balance. Nothing is so sweet as to

    "Lie passive in God's hands,
    And know no will but His."

O child of suffering, be thou patient; God has not passed thee over in His providence. He who is the feeder of sparrows, will also furnish you with what you need. Sit not down in despair; hope on, hope ever. Take up the arms of faith against a sea of trouble, and your opposition shall yet end your distresses. There is One who careth for you. His eye is fixed on you, His heart beats with pity for your woe, and His hand omnipotent shall yet bring you the needed help. The darkest cloud shall scatter itself in showers of mercy. How may we enjoy this day? This enjoyment will never come by trying to be happy, and yet there are conditions which, if met, will produce real joy. 1. What Are You Wearing?

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Philippians 3:8-9

When Esequiel Robles was stopped by police in North Dakota for a traffic violation in January of 2021, he was arrested after they found methamphetamine in his car. In addition, they discovered that he was already out on parole from an earlier drug possession conviction, so they took him to the jail. As he posed for his mug shot, Robles was wearing a rather ironic t-shirt with a message in large red letters across the front that said, “Don't Do Drugs.”

When we come to Christ for salvation, He replaces the rags of our sin with beautiful and spotless garments. John wrote of his vision of Heaven: “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands” (Revelation 7:9). We will stand before the throne of God in white robes—not white from our own righteousness, but the dazzling white righteousness of Christ. This righteousness is not something we earn, but it is given to us by faith. When we trust Christ as our Savior, He clothes us in His righteousness.

Yet too many Christians do not live a daily life that is consistent with the spiritual garments they are wearing. Although they are clothed in the righteousness of Christ, their actions don't match their garments. Does your conduct match the message of your standing in Christ? Are you glorifying God with your life? Is your behavior befitting to your position as a child of God?

Our lives and actions should be consistent with the robes of righteousness which God has given to us as His children to wear.

In the consecrated believer the Holy Spirit is preeminently a Spirit of prayer. If our whole being is committed to Him and our thoughts are under His control, He will occupy every moment in communion. We shall bring everything to Him as it comes, and pray it out in our spiritual consciousness before we act it out in our lives. We shall, therefore, find ourselves taking up the burdens of life and praying them out in a wordless prayer which we ourselves often cannot understand, but which is simply the unfolding of His thought and will within us. This will be followed by the unfolding of His providence concerning us. Unfaithfulness and disobedience to the faintest whisper of His will often hinder some blessing which He meant for us. After a while, we may become so dull and negligent that He will not be able to trust us with His whispers, and we shall stumble on in the darkness and miss His highest thoughts. Lord, teach us to pray in the Spirit, to pray without ceasing, and to lose nothing of Thy will. We will give ourselves continually to prayer -Acts 6:4

THE HILL COUNTRY OF THE SOUL

Psalm 121:1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

THERE should be a hill country in every life, some great up-towering peaks which dominate the common plain. There should be an upland district, where springs are born, and where rivers of inspiration have their birth. “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills.”

The soul that knows no hills is sure to be oppressed with the monotony of the road. The inspiration to do little things comes from the presence of big things. It is amazing what dull trifles we can get through when a radiant love is near. A noble companionship glorifies the dingiest road. And what if that Companion be God? Then, surely, “the common round and daily task” have a light thrown upon them from “the beauty of His countenance.”

The “heavenlies” are our salvation and our defence. “His righteousness is like the great mountains.” (Ps 36:6) “The mountains bring forth peace unto His people.”

The Key to Fruitful Living

Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

John 15:15-16

Though we receive immediate and eternal benefits from salvation, God's grace extended to us in offering that gift is not for our benefit alone. He also chose us and saved us so that we would share what we have received from Him with those around us. The production of fruit in our lives is a direct result of our relationship with God. Dr. A. T. Pierson wrote, “A 'fruitful bough whose branches run over the wall' grows from a strong, well-rooted, vigorous, and healthy stock on the other side. The foremost disciples in spiritual life are the foremost in unselfish, persistent, untiring work for souls.”

There are many very helpful tools and tips which we can use to do a better job in sharing our faith with others. But the most important part of being fruitful is being closely connected to the Lord. Jesus said, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me” (John 15:4). All the programs in the world are no substitute for abiding in Christ. No amount of training or tactics can take the place of our personal walk with God. It is not our skill or ability, but the power of the Holy Spirit, built on prayer and Bible reading and fellowship with Him, that makes us fruitful. And that is His purpose for us remaining here on Earth.

The closer our relationship to Jesus is, the more effective our telling others about Him will be.

The best evidence of God's presence is the devil's growl. So once wrote Charles H. Spurgeon in The Sword and the Trowel. That little sentence has helped many a tried and tired child of God to stand fast and even rejoice under the fiercest attacks of the foe. We read in the book of Second Samuel that the moment David was crowned at Hebron, "All the Philistines came up to seek David. And the moment we get anything from the Lord worth contending for, the devil comes to seek us. When the enemy meets us at the threshold of any great work for God, let us accept it as "a token of salvation" and claim double blessing, victory and power. Power is developed by resistance. The cannon carries twice as far because the exploding power has to find its way through resistance. In the powerhouse, electricity is produced by the magnetic resistance of the revolving armature. Even so we shall find some day that Satan has been one of God's agencies of blessing. None of these things move me -Acts 20:24

REVISITING OLD ALTARS

“I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress.” Ge 35:3

—Genesis 35:1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

IT is a blessed thing to revisit our early altars. It is good to return to the haunts of early vision. Places and things have their sanctifying influences, and can recall us to lost experiences. I know a man to whom the scent of a white, wild rose is always a call to prayer. I know another to whom Grasmere is always the window of holy vision. Sometimes a particular pew in a particular church can throw the heavens open, and we see the Son of God. The old Sunday-school has sometimes taken an old man back to his childhood and back to his God. So I do not wonder that God led Jacob back to Bethel, and that in the old place of blessing he re-consecrated himself to the Lord.

It is a revelation of the loving-kindness of God that we have all these helps to the recovery of past experiences. Let us use them with reverence. And in our early days let us make them. Let us build altars of communion which in later life we shall love to revisit. Let us make our early home “the house of God and the gate of heaven.” Let us multiply deeds of service which will make countless places fragrant for all our after years.

The man who missed his opportunity and met the doom of the faithless servant was not the man with five talents, or the man with two, but the man who had only one. The people who are in danger of missing life's great meaning are the people of ordinary capacity and opportunity who say to themselves, There is so little I can do that I will not try to do anything. One of the finest windows in Europe was made from the remnants an apprentice boy collected from the cuttings of his master's great work. The sweepings of the British mint are worth millions. The little pivots on which the works of a watch turn are so important that they actually are made of jewels. God places a solemn value on a single talent. He puts a large responsibility on the humble workers and persons who would try to hide behind the insignificance of trifling opportunities. Our littleness will not excuse us in the reckoning day. Talk not of talents; what hast thou to do? Thou hast sufficient, whether five or two. Talk not of talents; is thy duty done? This brings the blessing whether ten or one. Faithful in that which is least -Luke 16:10

Just as You Are

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“To the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.” (Ephesians 1:6)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
Do you have a “know-so” salvation? What I mean is, do you know that you are saved and have the assurance that if you died tonight, you’d spend eternity with the Lord in Heaven?

Many folks don’t have that assurance, and in some cases, it is not a spiritual problem. It is a psychological problem. They cannot accept the fact that God has accepted them.

Charlotte Elliott penned these words to a timeless hymn of assurance:

“Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bid’st me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!”

You are accepted just as you are. It is all grace.

ACTION POINT:
Find the hymn “Just As I Am” and sing it to the Lord. Make it your song throughout the day when Satan tries to make you doubt God’s love and eternal gift of salvation.

For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

Acts 27:22-24

When Paul was being taken to Rome to stand trial before Caesar, his ship was caught in a terrible storm. At the point when the crew of the ship had given up all hope, Paul came on deck with a message he had received from God—that their lives would all be spared. Looking at the circumstances around them, there was no reason for them to believe Paul. God did not still the storm, and, in fact, it continued to rage right up until they were shipwrecked on an island. But just as God had promised to Paul, none of their lives were lost.

Many times when we are struggling with difficult circumstances, we find it hard to remember to trust the promises of God. When our eyes are telling us there is no hope, when those around us are giving in to despair, we can still be confident and even happy. I read about an elderly lady who always seemed to be in a cheerful mood. Finally someone asked her, “You always seem to be happy. Do you never have clouds in your life?” “Of course I have clouds,” she replied. “You can't have showers of blessing without clouds!”

Nothing happens to us that takes God by surprise, and nothing happens to us that derails God's plan for our lives. Our plans may lie in pieces in the middle of a great storm, but God is still at work. If we are willing to trust Him even when we cannot see the way ahead, we will not be disheartened by the storms.

The stormy seasons of life are just as much a part of God's plan for us as the calm seasons are, and He is always faithful

TRANSFORMING THE HARD HEART

The Lord “turned the flint into a fountain of waters.” Ps 114:8

WHAT a violent conjunction, the flint becoming the birthplace of a spring! And yet this is happening every day. Men who are as “hard as flint,” whose hearts are “like the nether millstone,” become springs of gentleness and fountains of exquisite compassion. Beautiful graces, like lovely ferns, grow in the home of severities, and transform the grim, stern soul into a garden of fragrant friendships. This is what Zacchaeus was like when his flint became a fountain. It is what Matthew the publican was like when the Lord changed his hard heart into a land of springs.

No one is “too far gone.” No hardness is beyond the love and pity of God. The well of eternal life can gush forth even in a desert waste, and “where sin abounds grace doth much more abound.” Let us bring our hardness to the Lord. Let us see what He can make of our flint. When we are dry and “feelingless,” and desire is dead, let us bring this Sahara to the great Restorer, and “the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the rose.”

THE FOUNTAIN OF LIFE

"Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up into eternal life."-- Jn 4:14.

ONE MORNING, when the land was carpeted with flowers of spring, a woman awoke in the little town of Sychar that lay in the lap of the twin mountains, Ebal and Gerizim. She little realised that that day would revolutionise, not her own life only, but that of untold thousands. Throughout its happenings her story would be embalmed in the history of the race, and she would take the first step which, as tradition says, ended in martyrdom.

Her nature was passionate and intense. The well was deep! She had sought to satisfy her heart with human love, but in vain, and she had ceased to believe in love. Her character was gone, and her neighbours would not tolerate her presence at the ancient well, so that she had no alternative but to carry her pitcher hither in the sultry noon, instead of in the cool of the late afternoon, when the women came to draw their water.

She was not destitute of religion. There was the ancient tradition of Jacob's faith, for he had lived within sight of these hills and had drunk of that well. She believed in this ancestral religion, which had existed in its sublime simplicity before the division arose between Jew and Samaritan, and had listened to many discussions as to the rival claims of the temples at Jerusalem and Gerizim. She also believed that some day the long-looked for Messiah would appear, and explain all things. In the meanwhile, however, she was sick and weary at heart. Her daily lonely visit to the well seemed to epitomise her inner experience. "Give me, Stranger," she seemed to say, "anything that will appease this soul-thirst, and restore to me the years that the locust and cankerworm have eaten. Then I shall cease to thirst and come all the way hither to draw!"

Is she not the type of myriads? Some among my readers have drunk of all the wells sunk by human hands, and have found them brackish or empty. They have turned from them all with the ancient verdict: "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity." Is it thus with you, my friend? Then, it may be, that He who came far out of His usual way to find and help this distraught soul, is near to you also, waiting to open those hidden springs of which, if a man drink, he shall never thirst again.

PRAYER

O Christ, Who didst sit at Jacob's well, give me to drink of the water of life, and to hear Thy voice, which is as music; let that spring, of which Thou didst speak to the woman, rise up within my heart unto eternal life. AMEN.

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Matthew 6:25-26

When Peter Marshall was chaplain of the U. S. Senate, he once opened a session with this prayer: “O Lord, forgive us our ulcers, the badges of our anxieties and insecurities.” We live in a day filled with worry and concern. Everywhere we look, we can see economic upheaval, health risks, political turmoil, and more. There are plenty of things that are real threats and real problems. Yet God tells us that we are not to be filled with worry and concern for the future.

It is important to remember that this command is not given because nothing can or will go wrong in the future. Jesus said, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof” (Matthew 6:34). We will have plenty of trouble and things going wrong tomorrow. But we do not need to worry about it because God will be just as faithful when those problems arise in the future as He is today.

Although we do not know what lies before us, God already does. He is never surprised or taken off guard. He never has to adjust His plans because they were derailed by something we do or fail to do. He loves us and cares for us, and He will never stop caring for us and meeting our needs. If we believe His promises, we have no need to worry.

Today's Growth Principle:
Relief from our worries comes through a focus on our Heavenly Father and His good promises.

The Doulos Spirit

The first word here used for service is diakanos, which means minister to others in any usual way or work. The word doulos, however, means a bondservant, and the Lord here plainly teaches us that this is the highest form of service. Christ made himself the servant of all, and he who would come nearest to Him and stand closest to Him at last must likewise learn the spirit of the ministry that has utterly renounced selfish rights and claims forever. It is quite possible for us to be entirely loyal to the Lord Jesus, and yet for His sake to be servants and under the authority of those who are over us in the Lord. The doulos spirit is the spirit of self-renunciation and glad submission to proper authority-service utterly disinterested, yielding its own preferences and interests unreservedly for the glory of the Master and the sake of our brethren. Lord, clothe us with such humility and make us wholly Thine. But whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant -Matthew 20:26-27

THE PURPOSE OF LIFE

"To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth."-- Jn 18:37.

THIS WAS our Lord's answer to Pilate's inquiry, and to a certain extent each of us may appropriate His words....

It is enough that God, who hates nothing that He has made, sent us forth to realise an ideal, to fulfil a purpose, to bear witness to some phase of Truth! Shall we not ask ourselves, as in His Presence, whether we are fulfilling the Divine purpose of what the Apostle calls "our high calling"? (Phi 3:14).

God created each soul with a purpose. The potter takes in hand a lump of clay with a distinct design. He means, when he places it on the horizontal wheel, to make of it a vessel to adorn a temple or palace, or he has in mind to serve some household use. The revolving wheel on the one hand, and his skilful manipulation on the other, will evolve and complete his purpose. "Cannot I do with you, as this potter? saith the Lord."

"Thou hast made me and fashioned me. Thou didst choose the time and circumstances of my birth, my parentage and heredity, my mental equipment and my physical frame. From the first Thou didst know the constitution of my body, which Thou didst fashion in secret, and curiously work in the lowest places of the earth."

To our humble challenge: "Why hast Thou made me thus?" God does not always give an audible reply. His answer is often voiceless, it steals in upon the soul insensibly, and we know that we are fulfilling His purpose. If you are engaged in some unwelcome task, which evidently is your duty; if you are shut up as companion with some uncongenial charge; if you are called to minister to people who seem unresponsive or unsympathising, ask that the Saviour and you may be yoked together, that His Will may be done through you, that His love and kindness may bear and forbear in you, and that you may witness to the truth, as it is in Jesus.

PRAYER

O God, some of us shrink from our life-work, from those with whom we have to associate, from unwelcome toil and irksome tasks. Enable us to see Thy plan, and to trust Thee who art working out Thy plan in our lives. May the love of Christ constrain us no longer to live unto ourselves, but to Him. AMEN
